Poll question: Do you as a DUer use spell-check?
.
.
.

I know some don't, and even some that do let spell-check's shortcomings pass

so . . .

what's your habit?

6. I spell well but it is my browser which catches the mistakes.
It really is too bad how many posters don't give a damn though. I have seen very short OPs with a short headline with a word clearly misspelled, but it evidently was not important enough for the OP to spend a few seconds to proof read it. Sad, really.

51. My browser catches mistakes at the body of the message but not
the subject line and this is the reason why I selected "occasionally."

11. My Mozilla browser automatically spellchecks stuff, but it doesn't work in the subject line
Edited on Thu Jun-11-09 09:52 PM by Ian David
I'll spellcheck things that have words like "Renaissance" in the subject line.

But to be honest, sometimes I don't use DU spellcheck on the subject line, and end up flubbing simple words.

Maybe DU can change whatever keeps Mozilla from spellchecking the subject lines?

39. Eh, nothing but a thing! I don't always spell check, myself, and I have a keyboard that sometimes
is a bit weak in typing out the G in words, most particularly. I have to give it a good push to make it happen.

So, if I am a bit too fast to hit the posting button, I sometimes find myself thinkin, jumpin, shakin, bakin, or what-have-you. My posts look like a down-home country gathering--or "atherin," I guess! (or "uess!!").

44. Occasionally. My spelling is pretty good.
Edited on Fri Jun-12-09 12:01 AM by Mind_your_head
I KNOW the correct usage of there, their, and they're as well. However, sometimes in my haste I "am lazy" and misuse the spelling/word. (I really HATE IT when I notice later ~ after the edit time ~ that I've used the word incorrectly :banghead: .... I ALSO realize, unfortunately, that MANY/MOST people won't notice/care ~ more :banghead:)

I refer to the dictionary often (and often reference my posts here on DU BACK to the definitions of words in the dictionary....probably to many ppl's annoyance? I dunno).

Well, to "sum it up".....I believe that if you can't "accurately say what you mean, you can't mean what you say". I try to be as accurate as possible in my posts and I TRULY TRULY love all of the other posters here (and elsewhere) who can articulate their thoughts with good grammar, spelling, and logic. (That letter of Dr. McCoy's to the AMA that I read today is a very FINE example of good grammar, spelling, logic, and a 'heart in the correct place).

---------

P.S. Btw, I 'owe' my good education to the Franciscan and Dominican Sisters that taught at my schools and to my parents who paid for it, even though it was more than a struggle for them to do so.

on edit: As careful as I tried to be....I noticed a mistake ARRRRGGGHHHHH.
