Ron Paul: Consider 31,478 scientists who don't consider humans responsible for global warming...
before voting on cap and trade.

I thought he was a Repub with half a brain?

In an attempt to inject some balance into the current push for "cap-and-trade" plans that would hit anyone who uses energy with massive new taxes and limits, U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, has asked Congress to consider the opinion of 31,478 scientists, including more than 9,000 Ph.D.s, who agree humans have nothing to do with any "global warming."

In a statement to the U.S. House just days ago, Paul said, "before voting on the 'cap-and-trade' legislation, my colleagues should consider the views expressed in the following petition that has been signed by 31,478 American scientists."

2. So we're supposed to wait for 100% consensus before doing anything?
I guess that's the point.

3. Apart from War on Drugs , Paul is a complete loon
a racist fool and one of the worst of the RWinggers. He is only against Iraq and Afghanistan because he is total isolationist. He would have been against WW1 and 2 if he was in govt back then.

He's more libertarian than 'Republican', really. Not a oft-invited speaker at the RNC, he.

14. No way. He wanted MORE deregulation, not less; and is totally against spending on public services
Right-libertarians are generally even worse on economic issues than ordinary Republicans or Tories. They are often better on social issues, but he isn't: he is strongly anti-choice, and has dismissed gay rights as 'heterophobia'.

he actually got the causes right.

8. Consider the source: The WorldNutDaily
Consider the petition: How many are climatologists, meteorologists, and/or physicists/geographers/et al with expertise in the study if the atmosphere?

Hint: I've seen 'the list'... Ron Paul should be embarrassed, if not completely ashamed of himself.

9. What is a "scientist", Dr. Paul.
Are all scientists equal, then? Would you, Dr. Paul, go to a physicist for treatment of heart disease or spinal chord surgery? If not, then you know why "X number of scientists" arguments are completely brainless.

Dumbass.

16. Well, I have a PhD in parapsychology
Walter Peck: Are you Peter Venkman?
Dr. Peter Venkman: Yes, I'm *Doctor* Venkman!
Walter Peck: Exactly what are you a doctor of, Mr. Venkman?
Dr. Peter Venkman: Well, I have a PhD in parapsychology and psychology.
Walter Peck: And now, you catch ghosts?
Dr. Peter Venkman: Yeah, you could say that.
Walter Peck: And how many ghosts have you caught, Mr. Venkman?
Dr. Peter Venkman: I'm not at liberty to say.

11. "good evidence that increased atmospheric carbon dioxide is environmentally helpful"

"Signers of this petition include 3,803 with specific training in atmospheric, earth, and environmental sciences. All 31,478 of the signers have the necessary training in physics, chemistry, and mathematics to understand and evaluate the scientific data relevant to the human-caused global warming hypothesis and to the effects of human activities upon environmental quality.

In a letter circulated with this petition, Frederick Seitz – past President of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, President Emeritus of Rockefeller University, and recipient of honorary doctorate degrees from 32 universities throughout the world – wrote:

"The United States is very close to adopting an international agreement that would ration the use of energy and of technologies that depend upon coal, oil, and natural gas and some other organic compounds.

This treaty is, in our opinion, based upon flawed ideas. Research data on climate change do not show that human use of hydrocarbons is harmful. To the contrary, there is good evidence that increased atmospheric carbon dioxide is environmentally helpful..."

Edited on Fri Jun-12-09 04:35 AM by HughBeaumont
Anyone who believes the economy isn't succeeding because "the markets aren't allowed to be 'free enough'" is, plain and simple, a dumbass.

Anyone who subscribes to the long. . . LONG debunked missive that global warming isn't caused by humans deserves no credence.

Here's a guy who proudly displays his picture with Ronald Reagan on his campaign flyer, believes in laissez-fail to the nth degree, is a global warming hoaxer, has made statements straight outta the pagebook of Hal Turner and is wrong on just about everything he campaigns for. His fanbase contains thousands of either fiscally conservative male followers or college kids who don't know any better.

How he had fans on DU at one point in time is beyond me completely.

17. Um. There's More Than A Quarter Million. . .
. . .scientists with advanced degrees in this country. So, Ron Paul's gang represents about 10% of the scientific community. So, perhaps Ron's 10% is just the lunatic fringe who has this whole thing completely wrong!

19. Any pseudo-scientist pushing this nonsense is indirectly responsible for billions of deaths
By encouraging politicians to delay or halt action against climate change, every one of these pseudo-scientists are indirectly responsible for all the death and suffering that will occur over the next century.

20. Many scientists were bought by Big Oil, Auto Industry other anti GW forces.
A suitcase full of cash can change even a scientists mind. Many so called scientists have been bought for the sole purpose of the Anti GW crusade to have a "scientific" arguement representing their denial of real provable scientific discovery supporting man made global climate change.

Influnce is one of the easiest things to buy if you have enough money.

Reborn and recirculating.

Have they ever cleaned it up of some of the big hitters who signed that petition? You know, the ever famous global warming scientists John Grisham, Perry Mason, Dr Frank Burns, Dr Honeycutt and Dr Pierce? With such qualified people backing this movement I fail to see how anyone could not take it seriously!

29. science doesn't happen by votes and numbers
Scientists conduct experiments, publish results in peer reviewed journals and go to conferences and present results. Of all the magic 30 some odd thousand how many of these scientists are actually contributing climate science results? It appears almost none of them because they sure aren't publishing. They might not believe in global warming, but who gives a rats ass because the science in the current literature for the last 10+ years is so overwhelming.
