Dog helps himself to pot in Seattle park, stoned for hours

SEATTLE -- It could be said that Jack, an 11-year-old black Lab mix, has learned to say no to drugs.

"He was just... stoned," said owner Jen Nestor Waddell.

Jack ran off the main trail during a visit May 12 to Seward Park on the southeast end of Lake Washington, said Nestor Waddell, but he came back in about 3 minutes.

About 3 hours later at home, Jack started exhibiting, well, strange symptoms.

"His eyes were kind of glossed over, very out of touch, I mean, he didn't seem to recognize me at first," Nestor Waddell said. "When he was trying to walk, he was looking at his paw, and then looking at the ground and then trying to get his paw to reach the ground, but was unsuccessful."

snip...
"I don't want this to happen to anyone else's dog, because it's scary and expensive - or a child? - so we did call the police," said Nestor Waddell, who joked: "I was going to tell the cops that they could borrow him, if they pay my vet bill, to find the marijuana, but they weren't that into chatting with me about it."

16. Could have been beer
Edited on Fri Jun-12-09 11:15 AM by havocmom
Never met a retriever yet who wouldn't drink if given the opportunity. That is why the 90 Pound Hound cannot have champaign on New Year's Eve. No beer with his pizza either!

I do know of a dog who kept begging for cookies, until her human mom and dad gave in and gave her one. Yes, the cookies were of the special recipe type. And yes, the dog got pretty stoned from one. She fell over from her begging position an didn't move until morning.

15. My daughter's dog was old and in pain and had to be put down
She had bad joints (genetic) and had been medicated for most of her life, and in old age was especially difficult to handle and unapproachable even for petting. The vet provided a tranquilizer so she could be brought in for euthanization, but my daughter and son-in-law also fed her some cookies laced with pot prior to the car ride. The dog became so mellow that she cuddled in my daughter's arms and was loving the whole experience she'd been deprived of for most of her life. She died a happy dog.

22. Jen and Dave are friends of ours.
Watching the video of Jen explain what happened had us in tears last night.

She adopted Jack right after my husband and I met 11 years ago. She liked my name, so named her dog "Jack". Looks like Jack and I share more than a name, though...

I haven't seen a video yet, but I did hear them talk about it on the news last night. Jack has become a very famous dog.

24. I know a guy whos dog ate all of his pot once.
He had a big bud sitting on the table and the dog just ran in and gobbled it all up. Dog was pretty blazed all day. He didnt seem to mind. After that we had to hide our pot from the dog or he would steal it.

25. Stray cat
that adopted us back in the '60s found our stash and ate the contents of the baggie (little over an ounce). We didn't know what was wrong with him until we found the empty baggie, then we just sat back and ogled at his antics for several hours. He slept for a couple of days afterward. And he also developed a pronounced aversion to plastic bags, hissing at them and sometimes hiding for hours.

27. Had a neighbor whose cat never tried catnip until I grew some
Some good shit, judging by the reactions of my cats. His cat was really stoned. He took her to the vet after 2nd day of lethargy. Vet cracked up and told him she was fine, but some kitties can't hold their nip. Cat was pissed at me for three weeks.

28. We tried growing some once.
Thought our kitties would enjoy some fresh from the yard. Only problem, the neighborhood cats enjoyed it too. That poor plant was always flat as a pancake. We finally gave up on growing it.
