Lessig gears up to target Landrieu on healthcare
@ 11:18 am by Jeremy P. Jacobs

Watch out Mary Landrieu, Lawrence Lessig is coming for you.

Lessig is the well-known Stanford Law professor and head of Change Congress, his latest project that is dedicated to rooting out special interest money in politics.

The group is currently crusading against Democratic senators who have said they oppose a public option in healthcare reform. Recently, Lessig raised several thousand dollars to advertise online against centrist Democrat Ben Nelson (Neb.). The group also sent direct mail to influential Democrat donors in Nebraska and, in an email, claimed to have influenced Nelson in shifting his position.

Now Change Congress is gearing up to target Landrieu, the Louisiana Democrat. In an email to the group's supporters, Lessig appealed for contributions and wrote that Landrieu has accepted $1.5 million from health and insurance interests.

2. would you rather have a right wing Republican?
because that's the alternative. She's about as liberal as it's possible to be in Louisiana and still get elected. You're just not going to have a true blue progressive in that seat under any circumstances. Not defending her, just stating a fact. She at least contributes to a solid Democrat majority in the Senate.

4. I don't have time to google up her scorecard ratings
she's clearly not progressive enough for you, nor probably for most other DUers. But she's a hell of a lot more progressive than the Vitter clone who would replace her. I say again, a true progressive will not get elected in Louisiana. You take what you can get, and she's it. Ideological purity is the way to marginalization. The Republicans are going down that road now, and you see where it's getting them.
