1. I didn't think she looked weak at all.
She smacked him down with the truth at the end.

9. She held her own, considering.
But no one from the ranks of the Democratic Party or progressive in any way should ever appear on a Faux News program. Ever, never, no way, no how. It gives the program credibility they do not deserve. Allow them to talk to themselves. This would destroy them.

21. She came off as calm and reasonable against ....
Edited on Sat Jun-13-09 08:39 AM by hlthe2b
an angry, out-of-control, and dangerous lunatic. She would not play his game, nor be intimidated. Let women see this.... His audience will soon be nothing but 70 year old angry white males.

To the perception that she came off "weak..." I think that reflects a deep seated societal projection that loud, angry, dictatorial attitudes reflect "power" and that anything short reflects "weak." This is the authoritarian syndrome that the RW seeks to manipulate at every turn. Joan adopted an Obama-type response.... Cool and calm. When a male does that, it gets attention because it is unexpected. When a women does, it is assumed to be weak because women are EXPECTED to react in this way.

10. I wouldn't say that
She looked rather bewildered at times, as if she were thinking, "This man is a maniac."

Which, of course, he is.

13. I just watched and have one question:
When people are defending Dr. Tiller, why do they let asswipes like O'Reilly get away with the same meme that he kills late-term fetuses...as a blanket statement?

Why don't they ever talk about the REAL situations of these late-term abortions. How most of the fetuses are ALREADY dead or they will be within hours of being out of the mother's womb.

The right-wing hatemongers give the impression that there are thousands and thousands of completely healthy babies that welfare queen mothers are aborting because the pregnancy is suddenly "inconvenient" (wtf?), and no one challenges that. The liberal guest just confirms that it's legal.

As with EVERYTHING, the sheeple need to be educated about the reality of the vast majority of these late-term abortions, not just say "it's legal." Not if they want to educate anyone listening, that is.

16. Maybe I missed it with his chest-thumping bullshit....
I didn't see her going in that direction, just the typical "it's legal and should be up to the mother" which is so true, but doesn't educate his audience. I'd watch again but he makes me literally want to throw up and makes my blood pressure shoot up. Repulsive piece of shit.

17. I was on his show once
And there are disadvantages galore. They sat me in a darkened room, with NO monitor, a maniac in my ear, a light that would blind anyone in my eyes, while they told me to talk TO a wooden, unpainted Box..

It was more like a CIA interrogation..

Then the Trick is, O'Reilly hammers you with 20 questions THEN Demands ONE Answer. I got trained by a media pro, who trains Senators to go on these shows, and all you can do is constantly Repeat Your Point, whenever Fallufa Pants stops to breathe..

Your feed can be cut off at any time by that Idiot, who claims to give You the Last Word as he disconnects your microphone..

Iiberals and Congressmen, Senators should all refuse to appear, let him interview only right wingers til folks buy a clue as to what this buttmunch does.

18. I saw it and thought she did quite well. So did the Gawker site where
her appearance was written up as a prime model for how to handle O'Reilly. Check it out; it's the lead story.

Wish we had more like her.

How to Crush Bill O'Reilly

By Ryan Tate

Remember when it was the liberal guests who ended up looking like sputtering morons on the O'Reilly Factor? Tonight it was the host. Joan Walsh turned the tables.
Her secret?

Remain calm.

Finish your sentences, even if O'Reilly interrupts you.

Do your research and form your soundbites ahead of time.

Don't raise your voice higher than Bills, or get more emotional. This way, he looks like the crazy one, as nature intended.

Leave no charge unanswered, even if it sounds absurd. Especially if it sounds absurd.

The Salon editor's vitruoso performance led an enraged O'Reilly to the fantastic conclusion that, in fact, Walsh was responsible for the death or abortion doctor George Tiller, because she branded him a hero. Uh, OK! Well, it looks like that's all you have time for. Enjoy your weekend, Bill, and try not to think too much about how you had your ass handed to you, by a San Francisco liberal. That'll just make you angry.

19. Strongly disagree
I read something like this last night so I watched the clip.

She was calm, polite, and she never stopped talking. She refused to let him shut her up. He was very disturbed by her low key demeanor and you could just watch as he became more and more agitated until the point where he was simply screaming over her as she continued to make her points.

The contrast between his red faced belligerent shrieks and name calling and her measured voice was striking. It made one of them look like a blithering douchebag. And it sure as hell was not Joan Walsh.

And she got in a damn good zinger on him at the end.

24. ... and if they DO go on Bill-O, they should just start laughing in his face.
I'd love to see someone just start laughing at him, as he gets crazier and crazier and more violent. I'd love to see someone put him into such a tizz that he slaps someone. And YouTube would be our friend FOREVER!
