and I'm as polar opposite of a "freeper" as one can get.

Frankly, despite the perpetual drama from the right, the left has a hell of a lot more to be pissed about.

In this leftist's opinon.

30. When Obama said that it wasnt always going to be easy
This is the kind of thing he meant. it meant we werent always going to get our way. He realizes the tide is turning anyhow, why waste political capital on that? The gay community at least has someone open and friendly to civil unions and such, there has never been one of those as President, so I dont see the problem. He has a lot to deal with it, it should be enough that the POTUS isnt a guy as whacko as the last.

55. Yes, the tide is turning.
But Obama's not contributing to that tide, or taking advantage of it. He's not doing a damned thing, except standing back and telling us to be happy with separate and unequal second class status.

While that is better that Bush's position, it is not nearly good enough from the President WE as a community donated so much Money and Time to help elect. It isn't nearly enough from the President who made Promises to be a Fierce Advocate for us, and to help us overturn DOMA and DADT.

"Better than Bush" is a very low bar for you to set, and it's only good enough if You are not going to invest any energy in our cause and if you don't care whether or not the President invests any energy in our cause Either.

If you think "Better than Bush" is good enough, then you obviously aren't an ally. You're just a bystander. You're doing nothing at all to help us get equal rights. You're just standing on the sidelines watching us struggle and sticking in your $0.02.

Wow.

I'd be willing to bet two million dollars that you wouldn't say anything nearly as thoughtless as this if it were YOUR rights being denied.

It's truly amazing to me how many straight people just don't give a shit about equality. I mean, it's truly just a minor side issue to them. They willingly don't understand that people's LIVES are affected by this. That people DIE over this. They just couldn't give a rat's ass.

Man, that's fucked up.

Edited on Sun Jun-14-09 04:16 PM by QC
The only issue it seems to shape is marriage equality. All those other little things--like war, the rich and the poor, caring for the creation, etc.--don't seem to have anything to do with Jesus, as he sees it, but let the subject turn to the homos and suddenly Jesus is busting out all over.

It seems a bit too convenient.

71. Thanks.
I do remember indeed. Now, it's cool to feign religiosity when you can score points with bigots. How that is different than what George W. Bush did is...as you say "situational". Whether it's Reagan or My Fierce Advocate (MFA), it is still sickening.

Who'd have thought that MFA would have his Justice Department working to enforce discrimination against the GLBT community so early on in his administration. Rick Warren was the signal that we'd been betrayed. MFA's decision to permit the continued dismissal of honorable GLBG soldiers and Marines from the Armed Forces when he could put a temporary freeze on that horrific practice while the policy-makers work to change the policy was an eyebrow raiser.

Now we see that MFA's Justice Department making bigoted and vile characterizations about our entire community in "fierce advocacy" against us to the Supreme Court.

54. Barack Obama doesn't like homo people.
The Advocate (the magazine, not the 'fierce' presidential one) hinted that there would be some kind of good announcement for us this month. Looks like the big news is simply his proclamation for Gay Pride month; granted, Bush never once did this but it's pretty weak coming from someone who claimed to be so fierce 'n all. DADT? Nope. DOMA? Well, we know how *that* turned out. We got a silly little statement written by some low-level staffer telling us to have fun at our parades and such.

Such is the power of his ferocity that he's won unprecedented support from people as committed to gay rights and the Democratic Party as avuncular pastor Rick Warren. The level of his ferocity shows in his steely, eyes-on-the-prize determination to allow gays that thoroughly and successfully conceal any sign of gayness, to remain in the military. His ferocity is so great that it can make an ironist stand up and cheer. It burns with such intensity that if it were fire, it would shine like a votive candle at noon.

Schooled! Woo-hoo!

73. It is brilliantly subtle, isn't it? He brings the right wing into his coalition
by giving them everything they want.

Sheer genius, I tell you!
