Announcing my Presidential Run for 2012 - Vote for the Hippie!
It's come time for us to take back our Government "of the People, by the People and for the People" and turn it over to the common man. With your help, the days of our Great Nation being run by the Corporatocracy are very numbered.

I will warn you straight up that not all of you are going to agree with me, but during my first 100 days in office I will be ruling with a lot of decrees, directives, mandates and signing statements. This will be necessary to turn our Country around and get headed back in the right direction.

There are a number of issues facing America today, issues that should have been resolved many years ago. These are the issues I'll be running on:

Human Rights



The U.S. Constitution plainly states that "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

"ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL". This is all inclusive, with no exceptions. There are no exclusions for gay people, people of color, or anyone else. That being said, gay marriage will be legalized and recognized on the Federal level. Matters of the heart cannot be legislated. Even if it could be, there's that whole "... pursuit of Happiness" thing in the Constitution.

Marriage, by definition, is nothing more than a legal contract between two people to share their lives... and their stuff. Granted, most ceremonies are of a religious nature but religion should not play a part in a legally binding contract between two people. That being said, churches shall not be required to perform ceremonies that go against their religion/beliefs. This shouldn't be a problem, as there are many churches who embrace and serve the needs of the gay community. There will always be the option of going to a Federal Courthouse, or any other Federal building with a notary public. Any notary public will be able to sign a marriage certificate.



The War on Drugs



The war on drugs has been a complete & total failure. It has run its course and needs to come to an end. It's a waste of time, money & other resources that should be used for education and treatment programs.

We lose billions of dollars in tax revenue every year due to the illicit drug trade. This also needs to change. The Federal Government will legalize drugs, though there will be regulations & taxes just like the tobacco & alcohol industries.

As part of my Health Care plan, the Federal government will open drug dispensaries and stock them with all the seized drugs now in our possession. We will have separate medical marijuana dispensaries with affordable medicine for those who need it. We will provide free medicine for those with prescriptions who are indigent and can't otherwise afford it.

The Federal Government will provide tax stamps, which can be purchased in incremental amounts to fit the needs of the simple user who buys or grows for personal use all the way to the top growers & importers. It will still be illegal to possess any drugs without a Federal Tax Stamp. In an effort to work with the Cartels who have shipments in transit we will have a 30 day moratorium on seizing untaxed loads, which will provide them plenty of time to make arrangements to pay the taxes and import fees for their product.

As you can see, these efforts will raise much needed tax revenue as well as create jobs, which will help stimulate the economy.

I will also pardon all non-violent drug offenders who are incarcerated and call for their immediate release from jail/prison. We waste too much resources, as well as destroy too many families, by prosecuting/jailing someone for mere possession of drugs. 100's of millions of dollars will be saved annually in prosecution/imprisonment costs. This will be a big boost to the bottom line of the Federal Budget.


Health Care



It's no secret that our Health Care Industry is a big mess. The insurance companies and the pharmaceutical companies have ruined affordable health care in America. This needs to change. Over the course of my campaign I'll work with people who can help bring about this change. We need Single Payer or Universal Health Care where ALL citizens can get the care they need and the medicine they need without having to worry about going hungry..... or bankrupt. Dr. Howard Dean, please keep your schedule open, sir.

It is my opinion that more affordable (or free) higher education can help cut some costs associated with health care, and the medical field in general.


Education



We need to support our Colleges & Universities better so that anyone who wants to can further their education, even if they have to do it for free. I'll be putting together a team to work on this. I'm open for suggestions and want to find the right people for this venture.


Global Climate Change



Global Climate Change is a real threat to our planet. I will do everything within my power to get former Vice President Al Gore to head up my Presidential Commission on Climate Change and start working on some real solutions to a real problem.


The Economy



Our economy is a mess, too. Hopefully it will be jump started with the revenue, taxes and jobs created by the Drug Legalization Act of 2012. Some of my plans to combat Climate Change, which I didn't really go into detail about above, will also create jobs and help rebuild the infrastructure at the same time.


The War on Terror



We all know that the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq were based on lies put forth by the Bush* Misadministration. If we're still there when I take office, troop withdrawal will begin immediately. I won't promise that ALL troops will be out, but combat operations will cease and we will focus on rebuilding Iraq. Combat operations will also cease in Afghanistan.

The new American Foreign Policy is going to focus on Peace and on Sustainability of our planet. We will still help defend our Allies, but we won't be playing World Police any longer.


Poverty & Homelessness



It's a tragedy the we, one of the richest nations in the world, have homeless people on our streets and people living in substandard conditions and/or squalor. This needs to change. Quickly.

We have far too many abandoned homes, apartment buildings, hotels/motels, etc. for us to have people living in the streets. As part of my infrastructure rebuilding effort, we will revitalize blighted neighborhoods and refurbish these empty homes/buildings and get people living in them via low interest/no interest government loans. This effort will also create jobs and help boost the economy.

Other Issues



There are many other issues that need to be dealt with, but these are very pressing. Ending Corporate Personhood, tax reform and election reform (verifiable paper ballots) will be on my agenda, too. I will be seeking out input from you, the People, and will listen to your concerns and ideas. Together we can take our Country in a new direction, the right direction, toward Peace, Prosperity & Sustainability.

I'm just a common man, looking to do good for the hundreds of million other common people who make up this Great Nation. I'll be out in my jeans, t-shirt & (most likely) flip flops, pony-tail flying in the breeze, trying to spread my message and gain your support. I will, of course, be needing your financial support so that we can beat the corporate machinery and take our Country back.

1. Is this a primary challenge as a democrat?
Because if it's third party, then you'd be actively campaigning against the Democratic party. That's generally frowned upon here at Democratic Underground. (Note: we aren't Liberal Underground or Progressive Underground)

I'm with you; I'm for sticking as James Carville would put it. I'd think that folks would draw what I see as the proper lesson from the Nader / Gore / Bush fiasco in 2000 and do likewise. There was all manner of Republican skullduggery in that election but still, how we vote is the most readily controllable thing we can do, so I'd think we should do that. For one thing, certainly, Democratic presidents appoint reasonable judges, unlike Bush's fascists. Alito and Roberts, anyone. Yes, I'm big on pushing Democrats leftward, but if we can't get someone as leftish as we'd like in a Democratic primary, how the devil are we going to win a general election with a third party candidate?

Marriage, by definition, is nothing more than a legal contract between two people to share their lives... and their stuff. I support your marriage plank wholeheartedly. It's really so simple. Where people get confused is by mixing up the religious ceremony with the legal contract. If some bigoted churches want to restrict the kind of marriages they perform, then so be it. But under a Constitution that guarantees equal protection, the State has no business restricting marriage to just a man and a woman.

Take the religious ceremony out of marriage and all you have is a legally formed partnership. Why should it matter to the State, or anyone else, who you choose to form your partnership with? It's pure discrimination.

34. That's the ultimate goal - replace 'career politicians' with people who really
care and want to fix this Country. The career politicians care more about their own bottom line, and the corporations, than they do about the people who elect them as representatives.

This is a true grassroots movement... planting seeds and watching them grow.

28. a possible idea for education - how to pay for it
ok - its just a rough idea but
- a national service corps where for 2 - ? number of years of service to the federal government, the Gov will fund your college. this can be done through loan repayment/ educational benefits while working etc. (like the US Military system - just for the federal government)

the people could be used to staff and fill positions, in all manner of areas such as health care, construction, accounting, etc. and the bonus is that after they graduate they have a job, ad are gaining work experience and possibly an additional skill set.

just an idea.
