Limbaugh has finally jumped the whale with his anti-exercise screed
Edited on Mon Jun-15-09 11:30 AM by Cyrano
With his anti-exercise screed, Rush Limbaugh has finally gone totally insane (as Keith Olbermann stated on Friday night.).

It’s hard to argue with Keith's analysis. In case you missed it, Limbaugh went on an on-air rampage against those who exercise, ride bicycles, run, walk, swim, do yoga, spend time in the gym, follow whatever program they can at home, and try to improve their bodies and their health through exercise.

Is it really necessary to respond to Rush’s latest brain dead rantings? Well, as of today, I suppose it is. But first, it's necessary to understand that he really is a madman.

Early this morning, a neighbor was coming home from his daily two mile jog. I said “Hi,” he said “Hi,” and then he asked me how I felt about Limbaugh’s rant about how exercise drives up the cost of health care.

With my toes curling hard enough to tear out the bottoms of my shoes, and my blood pressure threatening a nuclear detonation, I calmly replied, “What do you mean?”

He all but repeated Limbaugh’s on air rant about how those who perform exercises in any form are raising the cost of health care.

Although this is a "casual neighbor" to whom I just said "Hi," my reply was, “We’ve gotta’ talk.” There was no way I could possibly reply to a piece of insanity that extreme while standing in the middle of the street.

Rush hasn’t just “Jumped the Shark.” He has jumped whatever unknown gigantic creature that might live at the bottom of the sea, or any other entity that might exist on some other unknown part of our planet.

There are dittoheads out there who actually believe whatever “Guru Rush" says. If he tells you that you can float off a cliff and defy the law of gravity, it must be so.

Just how brain dead do you have to be to grasp the fact that almost any form of exercise is good for your health? And just how brain dead do you have to be to believe someone who tells you it’s not?

I’m really waiting for him to state that the Earth is flat. Not that it would surprise me. Nor would it surprise me as to how many poor fools would agree with him.

1. What was his 'rationale' that exercise increases health care costs?
I use the term loosely.

4. His 'rationale'
Was that people who exercise to stay healthy spend too much time in ER's when they get hurt.

Example: A runner who falls and requires knee surgery, people who go to the gym, tennis players, swimmers, etc.

2. The more you jog, the sooner you're going to need knee replacements
Plus, if you trip and fall, there's emergency room bills, ambulance rides, painkillers etc. What if you get bitten by a dog on your run? Rabies shots, probably putting down the animal...

It's better for everybody if you stay inside. Don't be a parasite by going out. We're counting on you to stay safely glued to the couch.

3. Doesn't obtaining your Oxy and Viagra from street corner vendors
rob Big Pharma of their rightful profits, thereby increasing medical costs on the rest of us?

Sure, the housekeeper profits, but what about me?

6. Sorry, but no.
Brain push ups burn off the Oxycontin too quickly.

Better to just bluster some hatred into a microphone and then go pop a few more pills and fall on the bed, --- or the floor, --- or wherever.

Cutting into their profits if they're not getting using the health care facilities. Some HMO exec's probably paid off Blimpaugh with a couple cases of Oxycontin for the rant.

19. ha ha ha
I'm sorry but I laughed so hard when I read this. Rush's purpose in life is now trying ways to validate himself in every way. Now he wants to make a good "real American" excuse not to exercise. Apparently he wants his audience to get as fat as he is (if they aren't already). Next he'll be preaching about how oxycontin makes George W. Bush make more sense (which may be true, you'd have to be high....) Anyway, I know how you feel. I live in ditto head paradise and I have to listen to this sort of garbage all the time. My father is one of those who would walk off a cliff if Rush asked him to. He listens to him on his daily commute to work. If you only knew how many times I have thought of ways to disable my dads car stereo but always back away because I know he would just rush out to buy another one so he could continue his brainwashing sessions. ugh

21. I went to the emergency facility at Snowbird (via toboggan) once when
I was in college and had some xrays and got a neck brace and arm splint. Not sure it qualifies, because I didn't ski for healthy exercise purposes but rather for the sheer fun of it. And after a 3 week mountaineering trip I went to the ER for what I thought was a stress fracture but was just severe tendinitis.

Other than that, I've never used any emergency facilities in relation to any form of exercise. And I have skied and hiked and backbacked and mountaineered and walked and even run a little, and cycled and swam and ridden horses and done all manner of socially irresponsible things for decades.

I guess I would have been a better citizen if I'd just stayed home, watched the boob tube, drank limitless Amurkin beer and got myself a patriotic beer gut along with a case of diabetes, and some heart disease to boot. Yeah, that's the ticket. What in hell was I thinking?

22. Was the guy ever NOT insane?
I read his two self-congratulatory books back in the early '90s.

I thought then, "this guy is nuts!"

Between an ultra-narcisstic personality and copious amounts of OxyContin, I wonder what a PET scan of his brain function would show.

But, as has been said, there are far too many people who listen to him like he's some sort of God.

24. If Limbaugh isn't insane, how do you define insanity?
We all know that Limbaugh's rants are meant to whip idiots into a frenzy.

We all know that Limbaugh cuts off any caller who says something sane.

We all know that Limbaugh makes millions by making fools believe him, and pissing off those of us who hate him.

What most of us don't know is that he's paid for the number of people who hate him and yet, listen to him anyway.

Change the dial on your home or car radio. Stop the hate.

Staying tuned to him is the very definition of insanity.

28. Damn. My appetite says "yes, yes," but
Edited on Mon Jun-15-09 02:40 PM by Cyrano
my brain says "no, no."

Which really raises the question of a Supreme Being.

What "All Knowing," "Merciful," "Loving," Divine being would have created a human appetite? And then gone on to create extra cheese pizza with sausage, mushrooms, (and everything else you like on a pizza).

Let's face it. If there actually is some supreme HE/She/It than we're talking about the worst sadist that ever existed in this place we call the universe.

And then throw Rush Limbaugh into the mix. What kind of demented creature would have created him???
