To those following the fallout of Iran's election on Twitter--avoid names when RE-twittering |

Some of you all may have seen the requests---but just in case: Those twittering INSIDE Iranian borders have asked everyone to NOT use their twitter "names" when RE-tweeting their posts **on Twitter**. Put their message, yes, but not the "name" where you got the original twitter message---they are being tracked by the Iranian government online at Twitter and they are hoping to avoid (or at least lessen) attracting attention to themselves if at all possible. If you want, use something like "RT from Iran".
And it looks like Twitter has heard everyone's pleas..maintenance has been RE-scheduled, they're now going by Iranian local time and it will be in the middle of the night THEIR time, for an hour.
For anyone wondering about the numbers of tweets on the #iranelection twitter site, I just got home and had left that page up while at work.. actually,I had left it up since I went to bed last night (10 pm CST). Tonight the screen said "39,500 new entries since you last searched". Wow. And that is JUST at the #iranelection twitter page. Doesn't include the entries not directed at #iranelection.

I hadn't even considered replying for exactly the reasons you mention. I feel I have nothing at all of substance to contribute and no way to even help as things are happening so rapidly. So I stay out of the way. Watching this unfold on Twitter is one of the most fascinating things I've ever witnessed.
