Common sense visits Morning Joe (bypasses Mika) re: Letterman/Palin
Edited on Tue Jun-16-09 07:55 AM by Mike Daniels
They covered the apology issue during the 6 to 7 a.m. hour.

In brief, after watching the segment of Letterman and Palin's response Joe, Mike and Willie basically said that Palin should have stopped with "I accept Letterman's apology".

Joe then went on to slam Palin's long-running habit of not knowing when to stop talking and that the reference to the military was totally incomprehensible and the attempts to equivalate the joke to the plight of all women was cheap political opportunism at its most brazen.

Joe's a tool but even he knows (and has stated on air repeatedly) that Palin's only hope for political relevance beyond Alaska requires that she remove herself from the national arena, focus on her job and hunker down and get more nuanced knowledge on various issues. He doesn't say it out loud but I get the feeling that Joe doesn't feel Palin is smart enough to come to that conclusion.

Of course, the only one to really stick up for Palin was Mika who now seems to have decided her role on the show is to be the aggrieved professional woman POV. At one point it looked like Joe was going to argue a point re: Mika's defense of Palin but saw Mike glaring at him through the monitor and thought better of it.

Yeah I know most people think the show is a joke but I like it. So sue me.

1. My irony meter just broke:
"Joe then went on to slam Palin's long-running habit of not knowing when to stop talking"

"Pot went on to slam blackness of kettle."

2. Thanks for filling us in so we don't have to watch!
I'm so appreciative that I will forgive you for the misspelled "its" and the neologism "equivalate" in your post, which is much better written than most seen here. :)

So is there hope for Joe after all?

4. I don't have the hate for Joe that most have on this board.
I don't think he comes off as "impartial" as he likes to claim he is by a long shot.

That said, I find that the guests (at least when I'm watching) tend to be evenly distributed along the political spectrum and I find the show more entertaining than most of what else is on during the early morning.

I did notice the "it's" which always bugs me when I find out that I made that error. Thanks for the comment though.

6. I suppose Mika is paid very well to leave her brains at the studio door
She used to be a good reporter over at CBS, and in my opinion her father is a brilliant political thinker. Alas, she's been in Palin's corner from day one.

- - - - -

Here's the deal with those pesky letters i - t - s.

"It's" is a contraction. It means "it is" or "it has."

"Its" is a possessive.

Example: "It's a wise dog that scratches its own fleas."

7. The funny thing re: Mika is that when she's on-air outside of the Morning Joe context
she's actually pretty capable in terms of moderating discussions and reporting the news. It doesn't hurt that she loses the "flighty chick" persona in the process

Morning Joe seems to be a televised "morning zoo" and Mika's role is limited to be the female in the male locker room. During the conventions and election she seemed to have more of an active role but that seems to have been diminished since November.

9. Who knows - he may have ambitions to compete with her politically
someday.

But that is interesting that Meeka is now the only one defending her, but I'm not surprised. What's it gonna take for Meeka to finally see Palin for what she really is?
