2. We aren't doing bad. Though, we don't live too high on the hog either. |

My husband isn't getting much overtime, as the company wants to keep overtime down, but we are faring a lot better than many others. Things are tight, but they usually are.

I am still gainfully employed, but my biggest concern is my mortgage resetting in 2 years. I am now underwater due to the decline in value and would like nothing more than to refinance into a long term fixed loan, but am having a hard time determining whether I qualify.
Thoughts/prayers to everyone else out there in these challenging times (and a fuck you to Bush for good measure!).
Cheers!

I make enough to eat well and take care of my pets. I have no credit and no debt. Everything will be just fine unless a health problem or car trouble pops up. I'm at the top of the lower class or bottom of the middle class depending on how you define the boundry. I can save a little but not for things like college or vacations or a brand new car. Buying health insurance at today's prices would wipe me out just like health care costs would.

7. I'd like to hear who is thriving and why. |
|
We're treading water with two incomes, and we don't know anyone who is thriving per se. We know lots of people who are unemployed, have had their wages/hours cut, and whose health expenses have risen. We consider ourselves very lucky that we both have jobs.

8. Just a tad over the edge |
|
I've been out of work for almost a year. My apartment burned down about 9 months ago and I lost everything, and I'm still fighting with the insurance company (well... my lawyer is now) to get my money. I am a hair away from giving up completely.

15. We live differently but we are hanging on and in this economy |
|
I would say we are "thriving" compared to others. We own our home.
My Mom is 90 and of course we are both retired. Mom has Alzheimer's and I am her Care Giver.
Well meaning friends ask me why don't I just hire someone to take care of her full time -- I would not do that even in a good economy! She is my heart and I want to share these times with her.
I had to get out of the Stock Market because it was sinking and I could not stand the pain. I lost a lot but compared to the pain others are suffering, I am doing OK.
I am thinking in a different way about how I spend --rarely buy any new clothes, not taking vacations, wash clothes that I did take to the cleaners and traded in my fancy car for a FORD Fusion.
I love the Ford, lowest gas $'s, and it gets me exactly where I want to go.
I have a "ritzy" friend that asked me how I could possibly go from a Mercedes to a Ford and I laughed in her face~
I told her, "I'm not trying to impress anyone, people are starving and struggling in this economy and the money I save I give to those that need it more than I do."

No amazingly well, but plugging along fine. My husband is a co-owner of an educational software company. It is used along with textbooks, for math and science education and classroom support.
