Obama's approval among independents down drastically |
|
Edited on Thu Jun-18-09 03:51 PM by steelmania75
In April, Obama had a 60% approval/31% disapproval among independents. Now it's 46% approval/44% disapproval. Could this mean that people are taking Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck seriously? http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124527518023424769.html#printMode

NEVER!!.. MAYBE my first vote for a rethug will be next year when I vote for my Governor, Charlie Crist. and that's because he is not truly a republican. His own "base" hate him.

Do you see alternatives that are better than him in four years? Do you think it's hopeless already?
Republicans have it so easy. They do the lock-step thing so well. Keeping Democrats in office is nearly impossible nowadays.

destroyed everythign and now Obama has to resolve all those fuck ups in six months. I still will give him the benefit of the doubt although my huband is pissed at him at the moment for not fully supporting public health care. I have to give him the full term to see what he accomplishes. The things he can't accomplishe and would with four more years. One thing is for sure, I will not vote for a repub for president, senator or congressmen.

10. No, it probably means that even independents are tired of wanting results |
|
The common wisdom is that independents are conservatives, but the vast majority voted for Obama last November despite the non-stop barrage from the MSM decrying how "liberal" he was.
Its likely many are disenchanted with Obama due to his constant defense of the status quo in everything from the banking meltdown to the torture issue.
I know it may come as a shock to some, but people who vote for "change" dont usually expect there to be so little changed after the election is over.

20. No, but do I think they expected Obama to help them out more in this economy? |
|
Yes.
They see trillions going to banks with few strings (like limits on credit interest rates), then see family and friends becoming unemployed and wonder wheres the guy they voted for who sounded so sure of himself, so confident that he could solve the economic problems.
All they see so far is the fat cats staying fat while everyday life goes to shit.

|
Edited on Thu Jun-18-09 04:27 PM by Cant trust em
OPEC is a cartel that decides to cut production and drive up prices when they decide to.
I'm pretty ambivalent on interest rate caps. Some of their policies are predatory, and some are just people who don't know how to manage debt.

We had a budget surplus when Clinton left office in 2001. Bush spent all that money cutting taxes for his rich buddies, and spending it on wars in Iraq and Afganistan.

I never watch them. I fight them. And I've always said I am an Independent, but I don't think I've ever voted for a Republican or an Independent because the margin was too close and I've always though R's had too much nasty, unAmerican power.
I will defend Obama against any character assassinations.
But put me on the cautious list of admirers - I'm a little fearful. I may be demanding too much, too soon. But some decisions are already made and I'm not happy. It may be more with Senators and House Representatives. Between the two, I'm unnerved.

16. my husband, who was a republican that voted TWICE for |
|
Edited on Thu Jun-18-09 04:10 PM by Sebass1271
Bush and Bush's daddy, now is pissed at Obama after voting for him. He feels Obama has no spine to confront the, (listen to this) republicans and democrats who are opposing public health care. My husband is a Nurse and wants Public Health care to pass now. He thinks Obama is losing precious time trying to accommodate republicans and being bipartisan. It really strikes me that someone who was a republican all his life is now so anti-republican now. This, of course, is not stopping him from getting pissed at Obama for trying to please everyone instead of being forceful. He should remind every senator and congressman and the media that He WON and that he will implement the issues he ran on.

29. On May 14th of this year Obama got passed an $85 billion "Supplemental" war spending bill |
|
He promised at that time that there would never be another "off budget" supplemental war spending bill. Here it is one month later and he again asked for and got a $105 billion "Supplemental" war spending bill "Off Budget" exactly what he promised would never happen again. He promised "Beginning on Day One" he would begin bringing troops home from Iraq "One Brigade a Month" His Promises don't seem to mean much to him..

I no longer have a very high opinion of him.. He has gone back on numerous things he promised and they are important things IMO. so, you will let rethugs take power again so we can go back 10 years? I believe your stand is not a good one to take. Sometimes for us to see real change, we must take our fight by contacting our congressmen and the media. I believe Obama has said countless of times, - make me do it- meaning, raise your voices, "I can't do it alone".

24. Your interpretation is unlikely, imho. |
|
Independents tend to be either libertarians (who probably were the original 31% disapprovals among independents), and people to the left of the DLC folks. Both parties have been moving to the right over the last several decades, leaving people who are truly on the left behind.
Those folks were likely happy with Obama's election and thrilled to be rid of Bush, but increasingly unhappy with his stance on equal rights, human rights, accountability, bailouts, Iraq, Afghanistan, health care, and so on.
