So, it's been 40 years since the Stonewall riots |
|
and I was wondering how many federal laws protecting the constitutional rights of the GLBT community have been passed by Congress (and signed) by a sitting President since 1969.
Does anyone have any idea. . .? Or can help us make a nice list?

1. 40 years after Stonewall, |
|
Still 0% equal ..... Every year, 1,500 people are victims of hate crimes due to their real or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity or expression and they are not protected by federal legislation.
In 30 states it is perfectly legal to fire somebody solely for being lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender.
In most states there is no protection for discrimination in housing, public accomoodations, and credit based on sexual orientation and gender identity or expression.
..... In 46 states, same sex couples are denied the right to marry.
And same sex couples legally married in 4 states or in foreign coutries are considered not married by the federal government and by most states
The federal government does not recognize the legal marriages of same sex couples.
It does not even provide the most basic protections that common law couples take for granted. .....

3. Hahaha...well, no....it just seems to me that since this is the 40th |
|
anniversary of the Stonewall riots and we are a political discussion forum, that maybe we should look at ourselves and wonder how much we know about what the federal government has done (or not done) for the LGBT community.
I focused on Congress and the President simply because that is very much at the heart of the issues being discussed today. I figured out of all the people visiting this forum, surely we could make some kind of list.
