An old story here in the midwest is the story of the mule standing in the middle of the road refusing to move. A motorist comes upon the mule and stops not wanting to wreck his car. He gets out and tries to get the mule to move by pleading, screaming and waving his arms. The farmer that owns the mule comes along and says "I'll get him to move." The farmer then takes a length of two by four he brought with him and brings it down hard between the mule's eyes. "What the hell did you do that for?" asked the motorist taken aback." "Got to get his attention first" said the farmer.

Somehow we need to get Baucus' attention.

3. It doesn't matter what Baucus wants

It matter what passes Congress and gets signed by Obama.

If Obama wanted Baucus to change his tune, he'd put pressure on him to do so. Baucus serves as the 'useful idiot' in this whole game.
