Did the Supreme Leader Get to Mousavi?--Iran's Mousavi Not Calling for Saturday Protest
Source: Reuters

TEHRAN, June 19 (Reuters) - Defeated Iranian presidential election candidate Mirhossein Mousavi has not called on his supporters to stage new street protests on Saturday, an ally told Reuters on Friday.

The ally, who declined to be named, spoke after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a strong warning to leaders of mass street protests after a June 12 disputed presidential election that they would be responsible for any bloodshed.

At a demonstration in the capital on Thursday, Mousavi's supporters carried banners saying they would gather again in downtown Tehran on Saturday afternoon.

1. duh
they're on the same team.

There is no real democracy in Iran.

(or here, for that matter)

2. I am under this impression, too.
I am curious to see how it plays out. But, if that is the case, why did Moussavi hold rallies at all? Can they put a lid on these marches? Will the people turn their anger and frustration towards the theocrats in charge?

3. I think Mousavi knows the limits of what he can and can't do personally & what his supporters
can do. He's played the game before and won.

Commentators whom I respect suggested there could be some real blood shed at the TOP, not just the civilians protesting.

4. If the 79 revolution is any measure, a little blood is the grease that the machine runs on
maybe they're just trying to extend the crisis--or maybe they have learned how to NOT do the bloody cycle.

we're about to find out.

5. My concern is that since the brazen election fraud has stirred the people,
that the people will be shut down with blood in the streets.

6. yes of course
it is to be feared--and would be another disappointment about the course of progress in the 21st century.
