Some people don't understand on here |
|
Edited on Sun Jun-21-09 01:15 AM by AllentownJake
I actually love Barack Obama. I gave 10 months of my life for this guy. When he said hold me accountable. I took him at his word. I was in a very bad place in my life when this campaign started and at the end of it I was in a very good place.
When I say a good place, not in material things, or career wise, or other things. In the only thing that matters. I had sacrificed 10 months for a cause that was bigger than myself and I hadn't done it for any other reason than to hopefully further this country.
I told someone, I need to take a break. After the war some of the troops need to rest up or go back to training. There is still a war going on though and I feel guilty about taking a break to get more tools and to clear my mind.
I would have gotten a break but a friend ran for office and I gave her about 50% of what I gave the President. I also gave another 10% to other things political.
I was in a good place because he helped me to believe that I matter and that I could do good things.
I need to take a break. At the end of the campaign. The DFOs (Deputy Field Organizers) and I looked at each other and said how do we go back to what we were doing before after we just elected him. Honestly, how do you go back to what you were doing before.
I sacrificed for a cause bigger than myself, and I think I've earned a break for a while. Doesn't mean I won't be sacrificing but I need to focus on preparing myself so I can be more effective.
I saw a warning sign of what will happen to me if I don't take a break the other day.

1. Thank you for your hard work. But the work didn't end on election day. |
|
It took a break until Inauguration Day.
And I know you understand that.
Now that the administration is engaged, we see differences between what we see happening and what we personally expected to happen.
I know better than to mistake passion for divisiveness.
I've always seen you as expressive of the former, not the latter.

5. No one knows the problems we are facing |
|
the hangover of the last 8 years. We were attacked and we had a man who was not prepared for that office and a psychopath leading us. The impression those two left will be felt for a generation.
The problems this country are unique. We have to balance an optimism things will get better with an acknowledgment things may get worse.
None of us know the damage we did to ourselves or the world at large or what it all means.

4. your sentiments are very important and appropriate |

I have been alive to vote for 10 presidents. I move every 3 weeks for work and wherever I happened to be during this campaign, I found the local Obama headquarters and volunteered and supported the people locally. I met so many people committed 100% to getting Barack Obama elected and witnessed dedication and passion that I had never seen before. I understand what you are saying AllentownJake and I know there are many like you out there.
I am tired and disappointed in many things too. I also know that Barack Obama was the best possible choice for us. I am once again proud of my President.
From the victory speech: "This victory alone is not the change we seek — it is only the chance for us to make that change. And that cannot happen if we go back to the way things were. It cannot happen without you" yesterday I watched President Obama in an interview (can't remember which one) and he reiterated that he was elected to do what the people tell him to do. Many of us are still tired (and broke) and we need more people to get active and tell President Obama what to do. Rest up, do what you need.
remember "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has" (Margaret Mead)

6. I remember your posts about your work during the campaign. |
|
I did not work for Obama, I only moved over to him and remember how much your posts helped me make that negotiation.
Thank you for all of those hours. Thank you so much.

you'll find precious little understanding in what DU has become. Game's over; the Heretics crushed by the Groupie win! ---------------------------------------------------------------------
The flame will cool tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow.... But someone must see this already today, and speak heretically today about tomorrow. Heretics are the only (bitter) remedy against the entropy of human thought. --Yevgeny Zamyatin, (On Literature, Revolution, Entropy, and Other Matters, 1923)

9. Unfortunately we did not destroy publiCONs, just moved them. |
|
That alone was an epic battle of which you and all who worked it should be proud.
We do, however, have much more work to do.

Jake, I totally understand the need to take a break. My only concern was the tone of the message and some of the vacilating opinions I was hearing.
