Segregated white/black high school proms divide Georgia's students
On the first night, a prom was held for the school's white students; the following night came the celebration for Miss Nobles and the school's other blacks.

In early summer when Georgia peaches are at their sweetest and high school seniors can't wait to be loosed on the world, separate proms are part of the bitter aftertaste of segregation that persists in parts of America's Deep South.

1. Unbelievable

In 21st century America, where interracial relationships are just another couple, it's just unbelievable that there are still pockets of segregation like these redneck pieces of crap. Like the young people said, they were friends and there is no reason they should be separated by some stupid, yes stupid, adults. Maybe I should put the word adults in quotation marks. They are just silly backwards stupid rednecks. Period. I hope this school district gets a lot of heat for this and a segregated prom never happens again. And I really hope whatever administrators are responsible for this are fired and never allowed to work around young people again.

3. Perhaps the AA's should open an invitation to any white students who want to attend
their prom. I think then that would be the integrated prom. Who cares about the white only "country club prom" after that.

4. I read a similar story a while ago. The white ones are segregated. The black proms
aren't - the black students said white students could attend. Might be a different high school - I don't remember the name.

5. That is actually the way to go.
When I was in high school, our prom queen was a Mexican American, unheard of back then in 1958, but it took the white students to get her elected. The establishment white people were shocked because the prom queen was supposed to be their future blond beauty queen. Yes, we had one in our class who went on to be Miss something, I forget, but she didn't get to be prom queen and we loved it.
