What is PETA's stance on abortion?
You would think they'd be anti-choice. Have they made it known?

4. To PETA: Humans are animals.
The OP asks an interesting question.

Separating humans out as some different form of life, if PETA chooses to do that, is a cop out.

3. Why do they have to have a stance?
What is the connection between ethical treatment of animals and medical termination of human pregnancies?

5. From PETA's General FAQ
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x5905782

“Where does the animal rights movement stand on abortion?”

There are people on both sides of the abortion issue in the animal rights movement, just as there are people on both sides of animal rights issues in the pro-life movement. And just as the pro-life movement has no official position on animal rights, the animal rights movement has no official position on abortion.

7. Actually, I'd like to know
as one friend has her dog's puppies aborted. She could not afford a litter and she did have the mother dog fixed.

11. My stance on PETA abortions is that their mothers should have had them.
I don't care what the PETA nutcases think about things.

12. Yes and no
While they're extremist on some issues, they've also done good work in exposing the horror of trying to factory farm animals for meat and fur.

I just wish they'd learn to pick their battles a little better. Spoiled women on the streets of NYC swathed in fur coats aren't the problem. Farmers who keep animals in inhumane conditions are the problem.

I recall when I was a kid in the 70s PETA did very sane commercials about treating animals humanely, and I formed a very good opinion of them at that time. Then they completely lost it somewhere along the line and went extreme to the point that you would have to be a perfect vegan to not offend them.

It is essential to really put the spotlight on factory farms, not only are they horribly inhumane to animals, their mistreatment of the animals leads to health problems in human beings. But PETA does so much to turn people off that their good messages get lost. I don't know why they decided extremism was going to work, but they were wrong. It makes them a joke to most people, and they could do a lot more good in the world if they would try to meet people where they are.

Totally agree. PETA has done great things in the past, I hope they will one day return to their roots and do well again.

15. Since I see that the general boilerplate response has been posted
I think it's safe to say that considering much of their underlying belief is that animals should be free to live life free of abuse and tyranny, to choose to live life as it's been given to them, whereas women are people, whereas people are animals, women should also be free to choose as well.

Also, considering PETA runs a pretty good sized spay/neuter program, they more than most likely spay pregnant dogs/cats, thereby aborting the litter.

I can't think of a single *real* animal rights activist that isn't vehemently pro-choice.
