Sanford Ditched Wife & Kids On Father's Day - For An "Exotic Adventure" In Argentina?
Edited on Wed Jun-24-09 08:32 AM by kpete
Sanford, in an exclusive interview with The State, said he decided at the last minute to go to the South American country to recharge after a difficult legislative session in which he battled with lawmakers over how to spend federal stimulus money.

Gov. Mark Sanford stood in front of a mass of press and staff members after the S.C. Supreme Court ordered him to take $700 million in Federal stimulus money.

Sanford said he had considered hiking on the Appalachian Trail, an activity he said he has enjoyed since he was a high school student.

"But I said 'no' I wanted to do something exotic," Sanford said "... It's a great city.

DOVE HUNTING?
Amazing.

S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford was in Argentina, not hiking the Appalachian Trail as his office originally said.

Believe it or not, this was actually our first lead.

In fact, we asked Gov. Mark Sanford’s office about it directly two days ago.

Sanford spokesman Joel Sawyer told us that the story was categorically false, and that the governor was in the continental U.S. at a remote, undisclosed location.

Never again will we refrain from going with our instincts.

Amazing.

The governor’s office flat out lied to us.

Edited on Wed Jun-24-09 08:43 AM by predfan
Whenever I need to recharge my batteries, and jet off to the Greek Isles or Argentina, she's all for it, up to and including not even wanting to know where I've been until I get back....now granted, my kids are grown, so Sanford's wife is even more angelic, watching the little tykes on Father's Day while Mark's on the road unwinding.......and what's Father's Day anyway if you're stressed?

It's not the crime, ladies and gentleman, it's the cover up.

14. I think that's what people are talking about though
Yeah it was the end of a legislative session, but your job as Governor includes more than that. If you're going to be 'off the grid' you need to let the Lt Governor know, etc. I don't think anyone is faulting the guy for taking a week vacation, or doing it without his wife, or doing it in Buenos Ares. I think the problem is that nobody had a clue where he was, or when he'd be back.

That's highly irresponsible when you're literally the guy in charge of things in your state. If he had just said "hey I'm heading out for a week, let the Lt Governor know he's in charge if a meteor hits the state." and then we wouldn't be talking about it. Everyone would have just said "he's on vacation in a undisclosed location, the Lt Governor is aware and will be in charge if aliens invade while the Governor is away."

The reason this got so blown up is that his wife and staff all acted like they had absolutely no clue where he was, and by releasing that he was on the Appalachian Trail they proved it. IT was handled badly by the governor and by his staff, and in my opinion marks him as reckless and irresponsible.

And this is the man who wanted to stiff SC students and the poor by refusing stimulus funds. How many people in his state--or in any other state--can afford to "unwind" in Argentina? He is an a--hole we don't want near the Presidency.

18. Because he was being mentioned as a contender for the GOP 2012 nomination, thus
his antics are pertinent to the ongoing question of "Which whackadoodle will the GOP end up with?"

And when you ARE a potential GOP Presidential candidate, or even just a decent husband/boss, you don't run off without telling ANYONE where you are going.

33. I don't care about the "decent husband" shit. I didn't care about that with Clinton either. But, I
can see your point about not wanting to wonder where your president has wandered off to. But he's not even been close to nominated and wasn't it his own GOP lieutenant Gov who ratted him out? This sounds like an internal party shit fest to me.

As for the "good husband" thing, it's only relevant b/c the GOP is constantly making (bogus) claims to be the party of family values.

All these answers tell me is that there really isn't any reason to get all bent out of shape here. This is a guy who needed to get away. He got away. His wife wasn't worried. Only his own PARTY guy, R. André Bauer the Lieutenant Governor, made a big fucking deal of this. Bauer's a PUG. It really sounds like some hair up Bauer's ass.

43. It's politics.
"Lies. Lies. Lies. That's all we get from his staff. That's all we get from his people. That's all we get from him," said state Sen. Jake Knotts, R-West Columbia. "Why all the big cover-up?"

Division = weakness.

No, politics isn't all sweetness and light and being understanding. It's very often about exploiting weakness.

I get that some here feel personally attacked, and are getting defensive, cause they too like to just take off for days at a time without telling anyone where they're going... but y'all need to get over it. This isn't about you.

27. You know, that sounds reasonable, in a funny sort of way.
He might just be fantasizing about a life in a city known as "the Paris of the Americas." B.A. has become a very fashionable "new" place for elites to visit. Barcelona once was but is now crowded and "everybody" has been there. Before that, it was the villa in Tuscany, and that got overdone. Jetting down to B.A. smacks of exoticism and theatricality. No wonder the elites like it...
