After all, they're all saying that health care should be about choice, right?

So, I choose that one.

And I think we all should.

1. I'm cool with that - especially the "no premium and no deductable" part.
That would work for me.

12. What planet do YOU live on?
Senators get the same health benefits that ALL government employees get...the FEHBP.

20. The thing is, same as all fed employees, there is a premium & co-pays
The real difference is insurers (and it is through insurers, by the way) can't do the pre-existing condition crap.

It isn't free. Stop believing everything wingers send in the email

No one should have to choose plans. Everyone should have the best available--that being, a single payer plan

It is the same one Federal employees get to choose.

Every member of Congress who wants to deny this to the public should voluntarily surrender their own plan. Fucking hypocrites.

Then submit the response to Congress. Make it a Permanent Public Record.

Embarrass those who oppose it and bring it back up when they're facing re-election

14. That's what I've always advocated. Expand FEHBP to cover everybody.
Not a Cadillac plan by any measure, but it provides good, solid access to health care and it's an existing system so it'd be easier to implement than single-payer.

17. What you are advocating is single payer, however, it would be very expensive
if still funneled through the parasitical middle men insurance companies. Cut out the middle man. The insurers will not want to insure the truly sick who need health care, so there will still be a group of uninsured people who need it most. Federal employees as a whole are middle class and healthier than the population at large, and to include everyone and still make a profit would make any insurance sky rocket expensive that could bankrupt the country for sure.

15. I really would like to know what the Federal government spends every
year on FEHB, Federal Employees Health Benefits, which all federal employees get including Congress. Since the plans are the Cadillac of insurance, it's got to be expensive. Of course it's still private insurance like Blue Cross. I say cut out the middle man and give us have Medicare for all. If Congress must use Medicare as their health insurance provider, then they will probably make the effort to make sure that it is comprehensive, updated, and covers everything. If they are allowed to keep their fancy plans, then they will have no problem serving up the watered down, underpaying plan that we seniors have today as Medicare. Yet, even with holes shot through it by generations of Republicans since it was signed into law by LBJ, it's still better than most insurance plans that we ordinary workers are stuck with.

Actually, Medicare would be great if Congress will update the fee schedule, plug the gaps in it and offer dental and vision.

27. Because while basic access to health care may be a "right", top-shelf insurance isn't.
Advocating premium health insurance for all is like advocating $250k/year salaries for all. It's not realistic, nor does it make practical sense.

Sure, it'd b e great, but we live in a world of limited resources. "Better" jobs get better perks...and I don't have a problem with that.

FEHBP would provide good, solid access to health care for everybody...and that's satisfactory.

28. Medicare can do that, if it's updated, and be administered for a lot less because profits
aren't being funneled to Wall Street; because there is no need for advertising; because there is no need to buy politicians through lobbyists, who also must be paid.

33. Compared to the average homeless person's dinner, TGI Friday's is gourmet food.
...that doesn't make Friday's anything other than slightly-upscale fast food, though.

As I've said, most of my friends making $50k/year have as good or better medical benefits.

25. It's good, and available to ALL fed employees, goes through private insurers
isn't all paid for; part of premium paid by employer like most group insurance benefits.

People need to stop believing the old RW emails about congressional coverage.

Fed employees can get some decent insurance and companies cannot exclude pre-existing conditions, but it is not some holy grail of coverage.

I still pay 20% of covered care, 100% of other care, and co-pays. Just wrote a check out the other day, in fact, for doctor visit and lab work.

I am working for health insurance for all, but it doesn't get easier when DEMs spread RW talking points to confuse the issue.
