Woman, 85, Fights Purse-Snatcher

LEESBURG, Fla. -- Police in Leesburg are looking for an assailant who allegedly tried to steal the purse of an 85-year-old woman Tuesday afternoon.

"I was stunned. I didn't know what was happening," said Victoria Moody.

Moody left the Publix on U.S. Highway 441 in Leesburg around 3:30 p.m., and after she put her groceries in her trunk, a woman got out of a small SUV parked next to the Moody's vehicle, grabbed her purse and pushed her to the ground during a struggle.

"The woman was trying to get my purse, and I was holding onto it," Moody told Local 6 News. "She pushed me down on the ground and started to pull on my purse and I was pulling the other way."

Moody yelled for help and when witnesses came over, police said the assailant dropped the purse and jumped into a car with three women, which drove off.
