2. When SC seceded from the Union
A State Senator remarked that SC was too small to be a republic and too large to be an insane asylum. Watching the press conference was like watching the Twilight Zone.

6. Has he actually done anything wrong except go AWOL for a few days?
I mean, that we know about?

One of our greatest Prime Ministers (and our first), Sir John A Macdonald, was a roaring drunk who would disappear for days at a time on a fairly regular basis. He died in office after a total of about 18 years as PM.

7. What is it about "dereliction of duty" that very few folks understand?
I can't believe this is being spun as a "question of infidelity."

No. He's owned up to his mistakes, and nobody is perfect in their family relationships.

This isn't about "family relationships." This is about abandoning your responsibilities!

This man "disappeared." He's also the Head of State for the State of South Carolina. That means he's "Commander in Chief" of SC's National Guard! Yet he puts himself in a situation where no one can find him?

OF COURSE HE NEEDS TO RESIGN. OR BE RELIEVED OF COMMAND!!!

Have we become so morally bankrupted as a nation that we see shear incompetence and irresponsibility in political office as "a family relationship?"

11. The hypocrisy of Republican politicians like Sanford
and the Republican party in general is what angers me, not the act itself. An affair is a personal, family matter and doesn't really matter to me enough to vote against or want a politician to resign.

But when you make "family values" a big issue, run as a christian conservative, etc... thats when it matters.

There should be a double standard. This kind of thing shouldnt matter to democrats as much or to moderate republicans because they aren't self righteous about moral issues and don't use those issues to get elected and try to used their office to legislate moral issues.

18. To be consistent I'll say no...
I didn't support calls for Bill Clinton to resign a decade ago and I won't call for Sanford to step down here. That said, the hypocrisy in the public spotlight is priceless.
