Thanks to DU and and update on my daughter re: my earlier thread today about rushing to the ER.. |
|
First, thanks for your prayers, good wishes and encouragement today, it really means a lot to me right now as I was pretty much cut off from other adult contact today.
Second, my daughter turns out to have been severely anemic. Now the thing is, she goes to the doctor about as often as I change underwear, I honestly don't understand how this could have been misdiagnosed or undiagnosed for a period of months now.
I even mentioned anemia to her yesterday after she collapsed at the doctor's office and was told that her "iron was good".
I don't get it, how can severe anemia go undetected in someone who sees the doctor on a very regular basis for a variety of symptoms including weakness and dizziness?
Thanks again everyone, I really appreciate the support.

2. Hope she's feeling better... |
|
not sure about the anemia... perhaps it's something to do with a specific aspect of anemia or some malfunction in metabolizing the iron. Maybe you could call up the doctor tomorrow and ask.

3. Thanks for the update. I've been wondering how things were going. |
|
Google "anemia" and learn as much as you can about it. You'll probably find your answer as to why it went undetected for so long.

4. Have her always ask for a print-out of her tests. Blood tests should |
|
have picked up on this. Anyway, I am so relieved for you and think you and she should enjoy a nice thick steak. Hugs to the both of you.

my blood tests were all coming back within normal range, but I was really feeling lousy.
Finally, I went to a fancy hematologist, who did all sorts of exotic tests, and found out that I have a genetic kind of anemia that's not diagnosable by the usual tests.
She'll get what she needs now, and she's gonna feel better than she's ever felt in her life.
Thanks for the update, and don't forget what a great and vital job you did today.............................................

7. Thanks for keeping us in the loop. I'm glad they figured it out |
|
quickly, and that there are ready treatments.. It seems like she may need to "upgrade" her medical practitioner, if possible.

12. Similar revelation on AirAm yesterday, due to records on computer. |
|
I'm pretty sure it was Air America yesterday. Interview with someone talking about VA hospitals, noting that records on computer allowed a misdiagnosed case of ... MS I think, ... to be traced to the original misdiagnosis in about an hour.
Had the records been on paper, it would not have been traced, and although corrected, intervening treatment side-effects might not have been addressed.
May you and yours be well and good.
