Holy Shit. "Don't cry for me Argentina" I think the wife outed him |
|
Edited on Wed Jun-24-09 06:14 PM by Laura PourMeADrink
Sanford just said he spent five days crying in Argentina. HAHAHAHAHAHa
You can't make this shit up.
Personally, think the wife outted him. If all was well, a wife would cover. But, if you think your husband is having an affair - what better way to nail him but to go to the police and say he is missing.
I know this is very shitty but I absolutely love this.

1. You missed a part of the story |
|
She had asked him to leave two weeks earlier. Apparently she had found out about the affair and this was a trial separation. She never went to the police and said he was missing.

6. I think the "asked him to leave two weeks ago" story, is just that |
|
a story.. If the newspaper had the emails in DECEMBER, the wife has known about this for a long time too. They probably decided to "stay together" until his term of office was over, and then something "blew it all up" last week, and he went AWOL..
How does the first lady of a state ask the governor to "leave" the mansion, anyway?

17. They have a house on some island |
|
That's the place they own and she asked him to leave.
She may have known about the affair for some time before she asked him to leave. I haven't heard that part.

|
I think she found those emails. Now who sent them to the newspaper that held them since December ---that is the question. I suspect that when the wife ran him she told him to end the relationship hence the sneaky trip and five days of crying although if he was really interested in the marriage, he'd have sent an email. The wife's comments didn't help him but who can blame her.

11. thanks Sanity. Are you sure she didn't go to the police? I heard |
|
that many times reported. So, how was it determined that he was missing?
I hate when work gets in the way of following a good repuke scandal ! haha

19. I heard that people asked her where he was. |
|
She said she didn't know and wasn't concerned. That's why I believe she didn't call the police. I imagine someone in the SC government wanted to find him after he didn't show up for work. Maybe it was the Lieutenant Governor, someone who would love to step into the governor's mansion.

At that point, he must have known it was over.

there is no way in hell I would do that. But, maybe when you are a public official's wife you think and act differently than the normal everyday person.

24. I don't know if I'd attribute it to being a "public official's wife" - |
|
at least not in this instance. If it were just Gov. and Mrs. Sanford, or if their children were adults...
But, with 4 young children, you tend to take the high road for their sakes.

He left without telling anyone either in government or his own family. There is no way that he could possibly imagine he could disappear from his work and family for days without the major consequence of discovery of his affair and the end of his political career. No one with the intension of keeping an affair secret or intending to remain in office would do such a thing. Unless he wasn't playing with a full deck he intended to be "caught" so the matter would come to a head.
Not only was there no need for his wife to "out" him since his going AWOL ensured that, I don't believe for a minute that she would be the one to bring forth the public and private humiliation of being cheated on. A good part of the pain of betrayal is the humiliation that inevitably comes with it, and it must be far more painful for someone in the public eye.
