It's a real red letter day for the MSM and gossip press. (a big scarlet "A" seems a appropriate). I can only imagine that in news rooms around the nation, klaxon horns blared out a call to "general quarters". Forget health care, forget Iran, forget the wars, forget the economy and forget John & Kate (whoever they are). Stop the presses, preempt the soap operas! WE_HAVE_A_SCANDAL! A SEX scandal! A POLITICAL SEX scandal! An INTERNATIONAL POLITICAL SEX scandal!1! An INTERNATIONAL POLITICAL SEX scandal w/SALACIOUS EMAILS!1!1 OMG! Does it get any better than this???? :sarcasm:
Seriously, our sensation driven media is so god damned lame that if they were family pets or farmyard livestock most humane Veterinarians would recommend euthanasia.

2. CNN had a poll on whether they would be replaced by Twitter. |
|
It was hard to argue that ANY modern media wouldn't be... Its not hard to replace a bunch of opining unaccountable twits for a bunch of opining unaccountable tweets. Most pundits don't do anything people sitting around in their living room can't do. Of course real research driven accountable reporting is irreplaceable, but who makes that stuff anymore.

I Will Never Twitter but I can see it being used as a tool to alert the "media" to potential stories but it's useless if the "media" refuses to check it out. That takes "research" and "reporters" and isn't cost effective.

I agree with your take on media orgies. There's a lot going on in our world that deserves much more serious consideration by both the public and the fourth estate. That having been said, I am a linguist and I have a question about language. As you seem to have a way with language, I'm hoping you or someone else who replies to this post can help me out. As my name implies, I'm getting older. Much older. And I've been living overseas so I am out of touch and haven't been in an English-speaking environment for more than 20 years. I don't intend this as a frivolous or offensive question and I hope it won't be taken that way. When Governor Sanford (allegedly) wrote: "the erotic beauty of you holding yourself (or two magnificent parts of yourself)": What do you think he was trying to say? Is he describing a woman with both arms held across her chest, with one hand on each breast, or something more akin to a Botticelli "Birth of Venus" pose?
I do realize that there are other possible interpretations, but I'm not going there.
Sign me, Ever interested in language.

and thanks. I'm an (ancient) semantics freak myself. It's a reasonable question, I think? I'm picturing a 2 handed offering in defiance of gravity.

13. I really appreciate the welcome. |

Now I am trying to picture a 2-handed offering in defiance of gravity. (It's making me dizzy.)
Since you are, as am I, a semantics freak, perhaps you can tell me when the Democratic Party became the Democrat Party?
And when did the preposition "concerning" change places among the parts of speech? Example: It's very concerning that Governor Sanford abused the public trust.
(Between you and I, I'm not always sure I, ummm, like, well, ummm, get what people are tryin' to, ummm, implicate when they're talkin' at me anymore. Back in the day, folks were more articulated, know what I mean?)

picture a car with no fenders. Something has to hold the headlights up.
Several years now. They think it's an insult. I think it just makes them look petty. I believe we countered with Republicons.
I think the "concern trolls" of the world just got carried away with their favorite word. Proper usage be damned.
Like totally!
If it weren't for spell check most of the intertubes would be illegible.
