Dylan Ratigan - Day 2. He could end up being my hero.
Just watched Ratigan with 2 Congress critters, one from each side, debating the energy bill. Ratigan had specific issues and questions that he wanted answered. Each time the Repuke started in with his canned rhetoric, Ratigan cut him off, telling him he didn't want to hear the same things over and over, asking for specifics and direct answers to his questions. The Dem congressman (sorry, I don't remember who either of these guys were) got the message real quick and actually talked with Ratigan about the specific issue and topic. Ratigan eventually just stopped trying to engage the Repuke, because he wasn't getting anything substantive out of him.

Even if I might not agree with an issue, I want all our media folks to do this kind of interviewing. Hold their feet to the fire and don't let them get away with just their talking points.

2. Saw him a few times on Morning Joe and kind of liked him
no nonsense and pretty smart. Agreeing or not agreeing with what he says is not the issue. I did not see the new show, I happen to work. I think MSNBC made a mistake putting him in that time slot. he should have been much better suited for the evenings. Much as I like Keith and Rachel, their shows repeat at nauseam.

7. Good man. I am not familiar with him.
Anyone who calls people on using sound bytes for debates needs to be given creds.

9. He had NBC Iraq bureau chief Engel, Pentagon news guy Jim Miklashevski
Edited on Tue Jun-30-09 09:35 AM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
and Barry McCaffrey discussing the implications of the Iraq war pull out - (some other guy too, but didn't catch who he was) They had a big map out with the different regions and were saying that this is also the day that some oil contracts were being put to bid. These guys were REALLY informative - especially Engel. They actually had a DISCUSSION without anyone shouting over anyone else and Engel made some corrections to some assertions made by others.

My husband looked at me and said - "My God, this is like actual news."

I wanted to get up and stroke the TV like one of the Apes in 2001.

10. Don't know the circumstances of his leaving CNBC, whether CNBC forced him out
for not fitting in with those talking-heads who shill the far RW capitalist (corporatist) malarkey (now that the Federal government has outlayed/committed $13 trillion to bail out the banksters and wall street fraudsters, let's get the heavy hand of government off their backs so they again can privatize their ill-gotten gains and we can again socialize their losses) or Dylan could no longer stand being around those shrill shilling RW talking heads.

11. Well, here's what he himself has to say about that

EXCLUSIVE: Dylan Ratigan Reveals Why He Left CNBC
Henry Blodget|Apr. 10, 2009, 10:49 AM|185

There have been lots of rumors echoing around that star-CNBC anchor Dylan Ratigan stormed out of CNBC after feuding with bosses Mark Hoffman and Susan Krakower, that he's headed straight to ABC for a big-time broadcast slot, and that he can't go on-air for the next 6 months because of some ridiculous, spiteful clause in his CNBC contract.

Is it all TRUE??? Inquiring minds want to know!

So we asked Dylan himself, who was kind enough to share 20 minutes with us.

12. He's very opinionated and tough
I think, should he have a thoughtful, relevant show, he'll show the talking heads at MSNBC how crappy the Morning Joke show really is.

I know I won't always agree with him, but if he continues to coherently argue topics, I'll give him credit for that.

Hopefully we'll see Scaborough and his book soon slink away......

13. I think joe and Mika are a little frightened of him - they were sorta ridiculing him
in a "friendly(?)" manner. Mika said to Willie Geist - "Willie, you should have a show. If they give one to Dylan, they'll give one to anyone."

I think Dylan will eclipse Morning Joe pretty quickly in terms of which show will people watch who want actual news and varying viewpoints - not just Mika mugging and Joe pushing his true-conservative-"fiscally responsible" -Reagan was a God - did I mention I was in Congress-no-we-can't-afford-healthcare talking points.

14. From what I saw when he was on Morning Joe...
He and Scarborough did not get along that well. That is a point in his favor.
