MSNBC-HD on Dish Network
Dish Network just added MSNBC in HD this afternoon. If you have an HD receiver (such as a 622 or 722) and received MSNBC before you should have the HD channel now on 209.

1. DirecTv hasn't added it yet, but I bet the pressure from Dish having done
it will help them get off their asses.

3. I'm a little peaved about this
Why can't DirecTV get off their bums and give us all of the HD channels available?? There are some like E! that broadcast several shows in HD, but we can't see them.

8. What's so special about HD?
Seriously, seeing every little mole on an anchor is not a plus.

On my mom's Sharp Aquos, the sound on the HD channels is much lower. In order to hear, she always has to switch to non-HD.

13. To be honest.

HD broadcasting is probably not that big of a deal just watching newscasts throughout the day. Where it makes a big difference is in big events. I would have loved to have MSNBC in HD during the campaign to see the speeches in stuff in HD. That would have been terrific.

During the debates or for big speeches, we would watch MSNBC, and then turn to to CNN-HD for the actually event. And then go back to MSNBC for the analysis.

HD makes a huge difference for football, and Golf too.

26. Watching a football game, etc in HD is like heaven, it is so clear.
To us, it is like the switch from black and white to color.

29. Answer... watch it. The only way to tell. Whatever you enjoy will be better.
The sound has nothing to do with the picture, just the sound coming through the signal.

If you can't see that the difference between having glasses on and not when your nearsighted, then HD won't impress you. If realistic colors and detail is important (like being able to read text in a chyron) the HD is for you.

Seeing a mole on an anchor isn't what HD is for. Seeing a mole on Bruce Campbell's face just as it is morphing into a demon ready to eat his brains... That's entertainment.

5. Apparently not...
I just reset my box and still do not have MSNBC HD. CNBC has HD but not MSNBC (have 622 receiver).

6. It's now showing up in RED on channel 9511
If they think I'm going to pay extra for MSNBC-HD they're crazy. I have the gold HD package.

7. You are right...
I also have the 250 channel gold HD package. Why the heck would they put HD MSNBC as a pay service? Yep, they're crazy alright... not payin', SD is just fine with me for a news channel!! I do wish they offer it in the regular service though.

18. I called them too, and got a similar runaround for a while...
I think it was an Indian fellow in their mainline customer support.

I told them that it was just added and that perhaps their channel lineup information might be out of date. They put me in touch with their technical support instead. A little confusion at first on whether I was asking about my local NBC affiliate (she missheard me I think), but after clarifying the red channel 9511, she said that it still isn't available yet, and that it would be made blue when it is. I think it is now just a placeholder for it and she said ultimately that would be the channel number it will be on, so add that to one of your favorite lists would probably be the best way to check on when it is available...

Edited on Wed Jul-08-09 06:28 PM by tridim
They are SO clueless over there. I finally got them to admit after about 30 minutes that it was actually launched today.

Now I have a rep running around his office telling all his supervisors that they're wrong. So funny. :)

Now they're sending out an authorization ping.

Apparently you have to have the Silver HD package or higher.

*** Wooohoo!!!! I get to see KO in HD tonight!

So if it's not working for you call and have them send an authorization ping.

14. Apprently it is not in the Turbo HD Packages
This is a discussion on that.

http://tinyurl.com/ntews3

I have the regular silver. Dish Network's packages are so damn convoluted. I am not surprised that their customer support doesn't know they have added it. They seem to always be the last to know anything.

25. I have the top-of-the-line HD package
Signed up before they started using the "turbo" moniker.

This has got to be a fucking joke, MSNBC HD is NOT a premium channel, it should be in every basic HD package. If Dish is really this stupid I have no problem dumping their ass.

I'll give them a day to get this crap ironed out.

22. Question: Were you receiving MSNBC before?
I had it before in my package. If you had it before in your package then you should get the HD version.

24. To answer your question...
Yes, I had MSNBC in my package before the purported addition of the HD version, for over a year now. I have also had the 250 channel HD package ever since I have had Dish Network. It still does not show up on my guide as being in HD. It does show up as a pay version at channel 9511 (in red).

Perhaps this is made available only in certain areas of the country at a time? I really don't know but perhaps it will show up later. Just a guess here.

Mine is still working fine. I have the Top 200 + HD package. (Whatever Dish calls it now.) On Satellite Guys one fellow said he forced a Guide update and ran a check switch and it worked.

4. I called DirecTV
The CS rep didn't have a clue about MSNBC-HD. I called on 6/29 the day HD started and got nowhere. I told her DTV needs to at least inform HD customers on their web site about upcoming HD stations, not to mention letting their CS department know what is going on.

That could be the problem right there.

9. 2 months ago I dropped the HD on my Dish Network
I have the "silver" plan. I'm saving about $23/month. I still get HD on regular local, but thats it. I guess I'm blind in one eye and can't see out of the other, because I don't see that much diff.

10. It can sometimes depend on your receiver/TV set...
I have one set where it doesn't make that much difference... on another one it is like day and night.

21. My brother switched from Directv to Dish
and he's happy with Dish. I have Dish as well and yes they just added MSNBC HD. I just checked my listings and it's there. We've been happy with dishnet. We switched to Comcast for 3 days and then switched back to Dishnet. Comcast neglected to tell us that they still had a lot of analog channels and we weren't happy. The only reason we switched was for the special Comcast was offering. We're waiting right now for dishnet to show up today to install a dish to get the local channels in HD.
