So where is the mass movement that was supposedly to arise from the Obama campaign?
How has the phantom “movement” made itself felt and known?

1. The Obama team only wanted our votes....

but had other 'corporate' plans. Hardly anything changed since Bush, except we're not patrolling Baghdad. Health care will be decided by the insurance crooks. I think we're still paying EXXOn and the other oil gang eighteen billion for their stimulus.

2. Good question
The "movement" has only had it's presence felt in opinion polls so far as I can see. Time to get off our collective ass.

5. Nothing kills a movement faster than...
political legitimacy. As soon as Obama was elected, it was over. It shouldn't be. As someone up above said, we need to get off our asses.

on edit: every friday the same group of anti war protesters show up, as they have for 7 yrs, here in town in their own little way. at noon, in front of the post office. they are disillusioned by Obama, and its weird, instead of standing there debating angrily about Bush policies they now shake their heads and debate angrily about Obama policies. and this is a small town. its like not much has changed, eh.

13. They have a good presence here in my community
They are working on health care reform right now. We had a couple rallies this past week that were pretty successful. One of the leaders of the local Obama campaign is now on our local school board. There is a group from the campaign that is addressing community issues. Our DFA group also hooked up with the Obama group here and we have had an increase in attendance and are pleased with the direction we are headed.

So I can feel it here. Sorry to see it isn't apparent elsewhere.

14. Happens all the time
I mean, after 8 years of Chimpy and 6 years of a 'Puke Congress and a solidly 'Puke Judiciary

Abortion is still legal,
Undocumented Immigrants are still here,
there is no flat tax,
you can still burn the flag,
Jesus doesn't grace the Great Seal of the US,
Reagan is not on the ten dollar bill,

and so on and so on and so on.......

15. Stupid happened.
Its like with the volunteer site linked from the Whitehouse. I volunteered for a number of positions I had unique skills for, I was work offering free to support Obama's movement. I simply never heard back from them. I've NEVER been turned down for any volunteer position when actual technical skills are involved, if nothing else out of simple thriftiness on the part of the non-profits, or desire to make a contact. But zilch. The didn't get my info, the site didn't work, out of incompetence or malice. So basically attempts to do this are being mismanaged or meeting a lot of internal resistance of some form.

But I don't think its a big deal, the fact is we don't NEED the president managing a grassroots movement from far, far above the grassroots. Best to take the time to grow our own. If the people lead...

17. It arose, and then like a fart in the wind it was gone.
You see, the campaign was the great rising, and having happened its over. Like a door that was open that is now shut; that was then, this is now.

22. You mean the one to get him elected?
That was successful. Did you expect more of most voters?

If Obama wants to inspire more people, he needs to be more forceful on the Public Option and other issues that brought him to the dance.

26. Well
I was told there would be more regardless of expectations and now it seems the silence is deafening.

Perhaps Obama was an act of system-legitimizing brilliance and the nascent populist unrest has been absorbed and silenced by the vortex of conventional party politics.

23. I helped Obama in the SW OH media market by fighting smears & attacking the GOP...
and McCain by writing comments and using the recommend feature to control what articles were in the navigation. I am still doing it and have passed the 240 page point of comments under 2 logins.

Which is why you don't see me commenting as much on DU as I used to.

PM me to find out more about my tactics or to join me. We need to keep Ohio blue and you don't have to live here to help out.

24. We've been taught to argue over crumbs while the perps behind the biggest heist in human history...
...remain uninvestigated, unprosecuted and breathing the air of free men.

The crumbs left over after seven straight years of war profiteering and sleazy investment fund manipulating, with the $750 BILLION financial coup de gras (just a down payment, mind you) administered as the Bushies were finally getting the hell out of town, wouldn't feed a robin for a month.

Then there's the raw fact that the entire planet detests this country for its hypocrisy; its 100 percent record of perfection in backing the wrong side; its cruelty to its alleged enemies; its pomposity over stolen elections (OK here; not OK elsewhere); its use of the world's mightiest military and the world's best-funded intel and black ops organizations to fight proxy wars on behalf of the petrochemical industry; its fuck-you attitude toward environmental sanity ... You name it, the US is guilty of it.

By giving it all up to Wall St. and the rest of the world-class thieves who run the country, our virtual representatives proved once again that a) they're honest pols in the sense that, once bought, they stay that way; b) they have absolutely no shame any more, nor do they need any since a nation of idiots has come to expect venal third-raters as the best government they'll be allowed to have; and c) as long as there corporate money is equated with free speech, this is, in fact, the best government we'll be allowed to have.

The idea that Reid, Pelosi, Harman, Hoyer, Obama, Biden, Baucus, Emanuel, any of Obama's cabinet appointments or the hundred yowling blue dogs running around subverting the will of progressives everywhere ... The idea that these rotten, greedy little self-interested people have the best interests of the american people at heart is, at best, hilarious and, more accurately, a long-term disaster.

Toss in corporate mass media and the nauseating propaganda it churns out by the ton; Grover Norquist; bigots, racists and misogynists; pro-life murderers; a government that's expected to lie constantly; a country where Dennis Kucinich is actually vilified and ridiculed for advocating for peace and social justice...

You get the picture. We're just living down to our expectations.

And then there's the for-profit medical system...
