Thoughts On The Primaries and Rushing for Policy |
|
I was sitting here reading the blogs and realized something. We have a year before the primary. Most of the time Part I is "getting to know your candidate" portion of the program. You look at the various applicants for the job. Find out who they are, where they come from, are the liberal or conservative, what nasty secrets are in the closet, ect. ect. Part II is the jazillion debates and town meetings. This is the tricky part. You have to pay attention to what the applicant says about his stand on the issues and get some idea of positions and policy and some meaty portions. This is where the brain and brawn are separtated. Things like knowing where Canada is. Are we friends with Italy. blah blah. Part III is making a decision if you have not already. Who are you wanting to hire. This is where the applicant does his final push with on the road red meat speeches and pleads for your vote. Then, the primaries. Well, we are just about finishing up part I and I keep hearing about issues. Okay. A little rushed are we. Then we hear about one candidate having policy stuff out. Well, that is nice but, he has not had a job for 2 years and has the time to write up white papers on everything including how to install piping under the kitchen sink. Alot of rushing and complaining. Yet, we have not even started part II. This stuff rolls out slowly over the spring and summer and we learn about all of it. Besides, how many really read those things from start to finish??? And most democrats are going to have something similar to each other with some difference in the details. I personally feel people are complaining to complain or because they want a reason not to like someone. How about you just don't this person or that. Let's take a deep breath. Not get all hyper and wound up. We have the next 4 or 5 months during part II to listen and learn about the positions of each person.
anyway, that is just my thinking.

decisions are made before part I? Decisions on the part of party organizers, on the part of big campaign funders, and on the part of actual voters?
If you don't talk policy early, how can you advocate for someone whose policy is worth your vote?

2. Alot of the people who are big shot usually know these guys pretty well. |

They have a feel and know the gist of what they are thinking and wanting to do. And in reality, does anyone think the democrats are not going to have stuff pretty similar to each other. As one person also noted, no one is screaming for the republicans to come out with anything right away.
