Imus statement on his show about the "nappy headed hos": I AM NOT A RACIST!
Edited on Mon Apr-09-07 05:33 AM by Bluebear
"Any reasonable person would agree that context & sense of proportionality is crucial. In light of my feeling over the weekend....I talked to this evangelist and that basketball coach....I am making an attempt to getting together with the women of Rutgers...I am not a bad person, I am a good person who said bad things. I am not a racist and I am not a bigot but if you read the quotes in the newspapers you would think I am. You have to know the context of this program."

1. the context is this..
They are all a bunch of sophomoric morons..guys waaaay too old to be pulling the crap they pull EVERY DAY..

They are misogynistic, bigoted, racist, yahoos..

They think that because they laugh when they say it, it's just a "joke"..

Who's laughin' now, Don?

They make the same lame jokes that Rush Limbaugh does.. and I cringe when I think of the supposedly "real" journalists who go on his show (but they are all in the same 'nbc family', so it's all in good fun, eh?)

3. I don;t usually watch, but when I HAVE, the music he's played
has been "hard rock" or oldies rock & roll..and today for some weird reason, he's playing' all the twangy country music.. Perhaps he's expecting a certain sort of viewer today to tune in and sympathize with him/./ Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but the music is noticeably different, and he's oozing sweetness from every pore :)

I guess if he loses this gig, he'll have to pay for all that advertising for Imus ranch toilet paper, Imus ranch roach spray & Imus ranch fabric softener

5. WHAT is his claim to fame anyhow?
Objectively as I can look at him, I see nothing interesting in his gruff delivery, he is not witty, he isn't even a convincing ranter, how did he get this gig?

7. I think he lets these DC pols and beltway pundits feel like they
are really swaggering cowboys, something which is going out of fashion fast. I don't remember hearing of him before * swaggered and smirked his way into DC.

(Nice poster, Swampy)

Yea, he'll be turning over a new leaf now, bringing his show up a notch.

Look for Imus to start readin' from "The Protocals" in the next hour. You know, making it more high-brow.

(Do I really need to add the scarasm smilie?)

21. This was mentioned in the sermon at my church...
...yesterday. (For the record, I am African American. I hope that some white pastors raised the issue also.)

My question is, WHAT CONTEXT IS HE TALKING ABOUT? It's a freakin' morning show! Is his context any different from Matt Lauer's, or Charlie Gibson's?

25. Why now????????????
IMUS has been calling people names, slurring them and being nasty for years. He has called every democratic politican name and ran a full blown campaign against Bill Clinton. And when he went out of office he took up on Hillary. I don't listen to him anymore just the clips of the remarks he makes or something when I surf by.

I listened back in the 90's to see what he was saying about Clinton but got so mad I shut him off. He has done this for years and people complained but it was not taken any further. I am glad someone deceided to slam the hammer at last.

41. They are bitter enemies
Howard said that when he came to WNBC that Imus tried to be friendly to him because Howard was now the star on the station. Behind Stern's back Imus and the program director was trying to get him fired. Imus also started to copy Howard's show and try to make it his own.

Howard is very hard on him and he's called Imus' show and got on him for talking about his girlfriend.
