My letter to NBC/Universal regarding Don Imus
Edited on Mon Apr-09-07 09:37 AM by BeliQueen
I sent the following letter to NBC, MSNBC, Sci-Fi, USA, Bravo (modified slightly), and NBC/Universal.

When I heard of Don Imus's insensitive and racists remarks about the women's basketball team at Rutgers, I took solace in the fact that I don't watch many shows on MSNBC or NBC any longer. Then to my horror I realized that NBC/Universal also owns the Sci-Fi Channel and USA. That's quite a blow since most of my favorite shows appear on these channels.

It's going to be a hardship, and I appreciate that it's not as hard as living in Darfur or fighting for my life in Iraq, but I will not watch any NBC/Universal programming until Don Imus is fired from the MSNBC network.

I realize that this one person boycotting your programming won't do much. I don't have a Nielsen ratings box on my TV, but I am one of the very few loyal viewers that you have for shows like Eureka, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica, Psych, and Monk. And although their ratings are good, I hope you realize that you cannot alienate a segment of the population and continue to prosper.

Thank you for your kind attention to this matter.

I hope that you and your corporation will take the appropriate action, and dismiss Don Imus from your airwaves.

I don't know what good it will do, but now I'm off to write Microsoft.

Please do the same. If we show our outrage they can't ignore all of us.

Thanks.

3. one more letter
To the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation:

I know that your organization is tackling some of the most difficult problems the world faces today, and I appreciate your efforts. It seems that in a world that is unfair, you are bridging the gap to bring hope to many people.

This--and your close association with Microsoft--is the reason I write to you today. I hope that you will voice your objection to Don Imus's insensitive and racists remarks about the women's basketball team at Rutgers. You are in the unique position to effect a change on what is considered acceptable behavior.

If your organization calls for the immediate dismissal of Don Imus from the MSNBC airwaves, then there can be no mistake that American women are not only some of your greatest supporters but also beneficiaries of your largess.

Thank you for your kind attention to this request.

I hope that you will speak out on behalf of women everywhere.

5. Great letter!
I don't think Imus will last through the week. I listened to a little bit of Tom Joyner this morning and they were calling for a million nappy-headed ho march. I was cracking up, but I'll be there with my naps.

7. I don't hate Don Imus
I don't hate Don Imus.

But I won't accept this type of behavior, and I won't support it, and I will protest against it. Actions have consequences.

If you had said something similar in an open forum that reaches millions of Americans then I would be protesting your behavior as well.

Ever since the Dixie Chicks debacle, I try to keep a level head about these incidents. So please do not try to paint me as an overreacting hateful person.
