I sent the following letter to NBC, MSNBC, Sci-Fi, USA, Bravo (modified slightly), and NBC/Universal.
When I heard of Don Imus's insensitive and racists remarks about the women's basketball team at Rutgers, I took solace in the fact that I don't watch many shows on MSNBC or NBC any longer. Then to my horror I realized that NBC/Universal also owns the Sci-Fi Channel and USA. That's quite a blow since most of my favorite shows appear on these channels.
It's going to be a hardship, and I appreciate that it's not as hard as living in Darfur or fighting for my life in Iraq, but I will not watch any NBC/Universal programming until Don Imus is fired from the MSNBC network.
I realize that this one person boycotting your programming won't do much. I don't have a Nielsen ratings box on my TV, but I am one of the very few loyal viewers that you have for shows like Eureka, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica, Psych, and Monk. And although their ratings are good, I hope you realize that you cannot alienate a segment of the population and continue to prosper.
Thank you for your kind attention to this matter.
I hope that you and your corporation will take the appropriate action, and dismiss Don Imus from your airwaves.
I don't know what good it will do, but now I'm off to write Microsoft.
Please do the same. If we show our outrage they can't ignore all of us.
Thanks.
