Is anything more infuriating and racist than the wet-foot, dry-foot policy?
MIAMI -- This past weekend was filled with protests from outraged Haitians hoping to change the wet-foot, dry-foot policy.

On Monday, U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meeks flew to Haiti with Adm. James Stavridis, commander of United States Southern Command, to try to make a change The trip was previously planned to see how the U.S. could help improve stability and security in that country, Meeks said, but Haitians in the Little Haiti area of Miami said it's not enough.

Meanwhile, Haitian-American leaders met to strategize Monday afternoon.

"We feel that they haven't heard us despite so many demonstrations, rallies and cries over the years," Marleine Bastien, a member of Haitian Women of Miami, said. "So we need to step up."

The next step may be a hunger strike.

Many of these men and women feel local politicians have offered little more than lip service when it comes to their cause.

"All we have seen so far is people wanting to be on the news or claiming they are doing something," Bastien said. "We haven't seen any real and serious attempt to help the Haitian community."

1. white foot, black foot?
one group has powerful friends in republican places and the others friends are few and far between.

old bush fomented coup, replaced aristide and turned the country over to criminals.
bill clinton made it right, restored the rightful elected government and started to help support it.
43 came along and blew that shit right back up, opened the jails and put the gangsters back in charge.

where is justice? where is the un? fucking horribly sad.

3. Here you go:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wet_Foot-Dry_Foot_Policy

<snip>
Since then, in what has become known as the "wet feet, dry feet" policy, a Cuban caught on the waters between the two nations (i.e., with "wet feet") would summarily be sent home or to a third country. One who makes it to shore ("dry feet") gets a chance to remain in the United States, and later would qualify for expedited "legal permanent resident" status and U.S. citizenship.

5. Let's face it, if we had 9 million illegal aliens from Haiti ...
... then Haiti would have a population of zero. Can't have that, can we? :silly:

Haiti migrants: If only they had a golden arm

Sun, Apr. 08, 2007
By CARL HIAASEN

US. immigration policy is a sporting proposition.

Some boat people get locked up. Some boat people get to play ball.

Jean-Ferdinand Monestime, who landed on Hallandale Beach on March 28, is in government custody awaiting an asylum hearing that will likely result in his deportation.

Francisely Bueno, who landed on Big Pine Key in August 2004, is pitching for the Atlanta Braves' AA farm team in Pearl, Miss. The lefty is here to stay.

...

The ''wet foot, dry foot'' rule is a farce. Illogical, unfair and racist in practice, it's also been a boon to people-smugglers with fast boats, and to other profiteers.
