Larisa Alexandrovna at Huff Post: Why Are They Trying So Hard To Distract Us?
Edited on Mon Apr-09-07 01:20 PM by Hissyspit
As Larisa put it, she's "still unwell, but mad as hell!"

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/larisa-alexandrovna/why-are-they-trying-so-ha_b_45287.html

Why are they trying so hard to distract us?

The national media continues to self destruct under the weight of its politically purchased editorial pages. Not content to simply slink away quietly after leading the nation into a disastrous war of choice through negligent and even highly corrupt reporting practices, the editorial boards of all of the major newspapers - still apparently strapped collectively into a mission accomplished payola flight suit - continue to play political attack dog for their paymasters.

After all, what is a little feigned concern for national security, a little faux patriotism between friends and corporate shills?

On the same day that the Defense Department's Inspector General releases a report showing that high ranking Defense officials lied about Saddam Hussein's non-existent connection to Al Qaeda, the entire press whore was busy contorting itself into Easter treats over a diplomatic trip taken by Speaker Pelosi to Syria. Terms of derision and evocative editorial smears were everywhere, but not aimed at Dick Cheney, who continued to lie with impunity about the IG's report, rather, aimed at Nancy Pelosi for visiting with Syrian officials. Oh, did I mention that Republican members of Congress had just made the same exact trip very recently? Apparently no one told the New York Post that. Nor were the Washington Post or CNN even attempting to get their facts straight before they went on the editorial hit, like mobsters, only with less integrity.

Instead of editorial pages demanding to know why Cheney's friends, handpicked to serve in top positions at the Pentagon, would have lied to their dear chum about something as serious as a war (they likely lied to the President), the major papers were busy making fun of Nancy Pelosi's state - California - as though it were some strange evil appendage without any right to have representation or the ability to produce a savvy diplomat. Let's not forget, that the famous Republican actor who played a fearless Cold War President on TV was from that very same state. The Washington Times, a paper owned by a cult leader who made his fortune off fraud, arms and drug running, and human trafficking and finally declared himself the Messiah to his Christian conservative base, apparently has issues with California. Just how freakish is this thing called beltway journalism going to get?

- snip -

Why? Where in reality do these people - from the editorial boards, to the talking heads, all of them - think they are, in comparison to the rest of us, that would excuse their behavior as anything but unethical, dishonest, and brutishly cynical?

Perhaps they are in a place where conscience is so easily bought and sold that they can pretend at decency and fool themselves convincingly. But they are not in a place from which the truth will ever venture out, not on purpose anyway. Truth may escape on occasion, and usually in broken parts, seemingly unrelated to a larger narrative, but by and large, this place of so called mainstream journalism is a wasteland, decadent and collapsing under its own Faustian deal.

Do I exaggerate? You tell me...

14. Why Are They Trying So Hard to Distract Us?
Great writing. No, you do not exaggerate; you tell it exactly like it is. The MSM is hopelessly bought and paid for Fascists. They are the propaganda machine for the Republicans and their petulant child in the oval office. He's had a pass since the R's trotted him out as candidate in 2000 and stole the election for him. No matter how treasonous or disastrous to the country Bush's policies are, the MSM keeps the ball in the air for him. They are as responsible for Iraq as Bush. They peddled his lies and propped his administration up and continue to do so.
What he and Cheney deserve is impeachment and the Democrats have made a huge mistake to take that off the table. Actually, Bush & Cheney should be taken to The Hague and stand trial for war crimes.

17. Because they are building up a paramilitary to bring back here and use against us.
Whats that Bush says "we have to fight them over thar so we don't fight them over har"

Then why is Blackwater planning to build two huge paramilitary training grounds in Southern California, WITH THE PERMISSION and/or silence of our two Senators and Governors in California.

Why is the "army" (soon to be privatized) trying to a huge track of ranching property in Southeastern Colorado to build another military training ground?

What about those "immigration" camps?

Better start talking to the neighbors folks and forget about the stupid presidential campaign for a while. There are bigger fish to fry.

19. And they're developing a special new crowd control weapon
that should prove quite useful if the rabble starts to get out of hand over things like loss of civil rights etc. Hey, well at least it's non-lethal.

Airman Burned in Raygun Test

MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. (AP) -- An airman suffered second-degree burns during an evaluation of a non-lethal heat-ray gun this week in south Georgia, officials said.

The injured airman was taken to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital in Augusta after the incident Wednesday. He was not identified.

Second-degree burns can cause pain and superficial blisters. Burn Center spokeswoman Beth Frits said the airman was in good condition and expected to be released Friday.

He is a member of the 820th Security Forces Group, based at Moody Air Force Base, near Valdosta, which is evaluating the space-age weapon, known as the Active Denial System.

Owwwwww. I wonder where he was burned on his body, a burn unit does not treat "superficial" blisters

22. I saw the Active Denial System on the gun porn show, Futureweapons.
Absolutely terrified me. They claim it's to protect the troops, but all I could imagine was that thing parked in front of the WH, blasting anyone who came within 500 yards.

The Active Denial System is the future, and it will be used against Americans.

Getting Tehran on the line could hold some promise
By CRAGG HINES
Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle

The Bush administration's resistance to more substantive contacts with Iran is a branch of the issue that had the White House frothing about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Damascus and her talks with Syrian President Basah Assad.

That sad White House display followed their virtual silence on the visit by Republican members to Assad the week before and the day after Pelosi's talk.

House Republican leader John Boehner was happy to play the White House's game. "She's going for one reason," he said of Pelosi's trip, "and that is to embarrass the president."

At this point in a hugely disappointing administration, the mind reels imagining what it would take to embarrass this president.

25. Has anything really changed much?
Bush is still doing whatever he wants and deciding whatever he wants,
even in the face of threatened Congressional obstruction.

Nothiing has changed yet, and I don't think it will until the law is invoked
against Bush... which does not appear to be on the cards.
