Watching all the MSM stuff about Walter this morning, I can't help but note
no one in the "news" business now is even remotely in his league, and there is no news programing on now that would have him.

I am glad I got to share some time on the planet with him.

2. So true... If only they would follow his example.
What passes for "news" today is a sorry successor to the coverage by his generation of newsmen.

3. I've been wondering since yesterday who could even compare to him
And so far I've come up pretty empty handed. I've often thought of Cronkite since he left. I hope he isn't the last of his kind.

6. True, probably because they are not based on RATINGS.

4. When I was active duty military and stationed overseas,
I would come home on leave, plop down in front of the tv and dare anyone to interrupt Walter. Of everything I missed in the states, Walter was #1 after my family.

One of my nieces is nicknamed "Walter" because she always knows all the news, and she's never gets the story wrong, either!

Journalism hasn't been the same since Walter retired. These news "readers" would do well to go back and study Cronkite if they're really serious about their chosen profession.

8. This morning I am wondering how long it will take FOX "News" to
claim to be heirs to Cronkite's tradition. I can see BillO claiming such for himself - he has the arrogance to do this, and certainly lacks any sense of shame or any conscience (or brains, either).

I agree, Moyers is about as close as we will get - after him, it'a all very steeply downhill. I guess we should value him and keep in mind there will be a big empty when he is gone.
