Abandoning the August deadline would be a huge political mistake by Obama and Dems |

Waiting another month gives the opposition interest groups time to deteriorate support even further.
If we let congress adjourn without passing health care reform, when they get back the momentum will be gone.
The loudest voices they'll hear will be the right-wing media in their districts. They'll see polls showing the proposal losing support (whether the polls are accurate or not is not the point... they'll be believed).
If congress goes on recess without doing this, it is dead.
...and the story of the 2010 elections will look an awful lot like 1994.
