April 8, 2007

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that this week will be the last week of the Sam Seder Show on Air America. As you know, Air America recently came out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy and the new management wants to go in a different direction with the 9-Noon (est) time slot. However, as much as I would like to spend more time with Alberto Gonzales’ family, he will be doing so shortly, freeing me up to do a Sunday afternoon show on Air America Radio. The show is tentatively known as Seder on Sundays and I am excited to get it started.

I am very proud of the three years I have broadcast on Air America Radio. I am particularly proud of the Sam Seder Show. We started the show as AAR was entering bankruptcy, when things around here were pretty hectic and insecure. The Sam Seder juggernaut, as no one but me called us, was able to maintain all of our affiliates that stayed with the progressive format through our bankruptcy. While it’s a bit early to judge, (our first full “book” is out in a couple of weeks) our ratings were looking pretty good and we dramatically increased AAR’s streaming numbers during this time slot. Most importantly, though, was the support and response we received from you, our audience. You'll never know just how helpful and motivating your comments, calls, emails and letters have been to me and my family and I greatly appreciate it.

I hope all of you will join me when I begin the Sunday show in the next month and a half or so. Of course, I’ll be maintaining this blog and continuing to promise to fix it. ( I mean it this time, I am serious!) I actually have some rather large plans for this site and its offerings but am not prepared to discuss them at the moment.

Anyway, over the next week I’ll be posting more about my plans, this site, Seder on Sundays and reflecting upon the last three years.

My email address is posted in the left hand column of this blog— drop me an email if you want to receive updates in the future. And tune in this week! I really don’t know how I am going to break this to Dewey.

3. I've hung with AA since their very first day on the air. I've watched them
make the most bone-headed decisions time after time, but always said to myself, "well, they're young and defining a new model, I'm, sure that they have a plan to make this work", and each time it became apparent that they didn't.

This is what the latest (fifth? sixth?) rising star they've dumped just when they started to take off and generate their audience. It is now apparent to me that AA is run by a bunch of idiot MBAs with absolutely no hint of a clue as to how the hell the radio business works.

Just another example of what happens when you let people with a degree and no knowledge make the decisions.

4. Oh, goddammit! This makes me mad.
First of all, they put AA on in NYC on a low-power station. Then Mike Malloy is off. Then they switch to a lower-power station, forcing me to get XM radio just to hear them. Then Franken leaves to run for office (a great reason, but I do miss hearing him), replace him with Thom Hartman, but not on XM, XM gets Ed Schultz. Now Sam is gone. Goddammit.

6. i'm so sad... i so miss the old AAR lineup nowadays.
miss majority report, morning sedition, unfiltered... i think mike malloy hit it hard and correct today when he tore the management fiasco of AAR's history a new one. it's like they just don't want it to succeed, which was my fear in the first place. i just felt there would have been way too many disconnected admin/pompous MBA management types just waiting for their 3 martini lunch and their golden parachute. management in america has been absolutely infected with the worst type of infection -- corruption at the decision level.

7. They learned the hard way with Malloy and gave Sam a notice.
I hope NOVA M picks him up! I have a feeling Randi Rhodes is next to go!

9. I don't think they were expecting the anger they got from Mike's loyal fans.
After the firing they soon found out how popular Malloy really was!

10. Never heard Malloy or Sam, but I'd be upset if Randi went.
I like her show.

11. She is probably big enough to syndicate her own show
independently. She doesn't need AAR. Hell, at this point she practically is AAR... all the other big names are gone now.
