"God wants you to have a reward..." - Evangelical view on adultery
Anyone here watch TrueBlood? Good vampire show on HBO that has a fictional organization called the Fellowship of the Sun. They are the crazy evangelicals (with many demons in their own closet yet to be revealed) in the show out to kill all the vampires.

Anyways, they've set the show and this group up as a great portrayal of the Evangelical Christians and how gung-ho they are about stupid stuff when they're really all just scared and insecure.

So, the main woman in the organization married to the main guy has taken a liking to Jason Stackhouse, one of the main guys in the show and he's in the bath last week and she wants him bad.

He says, "isn't this wrong, you're married"

She convinced him saying, "You've worked hard, God wants you to have a reward."

Ha ha, it was great, cause you know that's what all of these Ensign/Sanford/etc. assholes really believe.

I realize it's fictional, but they're portrayal of this group is dead on.

3. "God hates fangs."

I almost fell out of my chair when I saw that sign, in a preview of True Blood.

Haven't got into it because it had already started when I came back from Egypt. And I get obsessive about watching those HBO series from the beginning.

Recently I saw the Twilight vs. BTVS movie.

It's exactly one frame long: Buffy kills Edward. The End. Bwah!

4. It's fairly entertaining. I've heard it described as "Twilight for adults"
My wife got me to watch it cause of her Twilight obsession and I expected it to be stupid, like I thought the Twilight movie was, but it is a lot more enjoyable thanks to the nudity, the violence, and of course the great writing that seems to put a LOT of stake in making fun of Evangelicals.

5. The interesting thing is asking someone why adultry is wrong.
Many people will say because it says it is wrong in the Bible. Some will explain how it hurts many people and does not make anyone happier. Along with creating societal issues of disorder, and breaking feelings of trust, and many other things about it. Was the story of David's adultury just to tell us it is wrong, or to also show how it hurts many people? It taught us some of the reasons why it is wrong, not just that it is wrong.

My point is some think things are wrong, because their religious text of choice says it is wrong.

Here is the problem with that. If a deceptive thing gets through there discernment, their belief in 'just following what they are told' from a doctrine, and not actually understanding why it is right or wrong, makes them vulnerable.

A deceptive source, weather a heretical doctrine, or even some bad spiritual thing, if that thing makes it past their discernment, can tell them to do anything. And since they were taught to believe because 'it says so' that bad thing can get them to believe bad things are ok. Someone that just follows what they are told had better have the right source always. A person that tries to follow what they are told, but also checks it with their mind, soul, and heart, gets an extra layer of protection. Is it only for self? Or is it also for love of God and love of thy neighbor?

I think that is why we are suppose to understand and reflect on choices and thoughts to know the meaning of why they are wrong or right, to better arm ourselves with the full protection of the mind, soul, and heart God gave us.
