Damn -- I thought I was truly past being this gullible -- but I actually fell for those soul-soothing Cancer Treatment of America commercials -- and here they are represented front and center at (anti-)FreedomWorks :grr:

10. American Institute for Full Employment ...wants to "privatise" ("steal") Social Security -- an thus
is the only aptly named Reep Front Group, ever. Once they steal our SS$, we'l be fully employed (or else!) until death.

American Institute for Full Employment | Labor & Employment ...Supports privatization of social security. Works towards the goal of full employment through research and development of public assistance, employment and ...

3. Everytime I saw those commercials I thought to myself,
"Right, Cancer treatment centers of America treat the whole person..." as long as they have a kajillion dollars. Now I know I'm right. Sadly, it also tells me just how cynical I am.

4. Just saw that commercial tonight, during Rachel Maddow
I kind of fell for it too.

There are tons of extremely manipulative commercials all over TV these days. It's really sickening.

And check out one of their corporate credos:

"Straight Shooters:
As a rule, the people of Thomas say what they mean and mean what they say.
While truth and integrity characterize our dealings with one another, we think all outsiders deserve the same from us."

"Outsiders" -- that's kind of creepy. And boy is that rich -- straight shooters whose chief executive sits on the board of a lobbying firm that's proudly sending out astroturf unwashed with instructions to use verbal violence to destroy any real, straightforward discussion about healthcare reform. My, how Republican of him!

11. Wonder why Cancer Treatment Centers are fighting "government interference"?
They don't like being unable to dupe desperate people without the FTC getting involved.

Cancer Treatment Centers of America was the subject of a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) complaint in 1993. The FTC alleged that CTCA made false claims regarding the success rates of certain cancer treatments in their promotional materials. This claim was settled in March 1996, requiring CTCA to discontinue use of any unsubstantiated claims in their advertising<10>. CTCA is also required to have proven, scientific evidence for all statements regarding the safety, success rates, endorsements, and benefits of their cancer treatments. CTCA was also required to follow various steps in order to report compliance to the FTC per the settlement.

14. My personal experience w/ CTCA is akin to being booked into jail.
I arrived for my appointment and was directed to a woman that was vaquely reminescient of the matron in a '50's b movie about juvie hall for bad girls. No, 'hello, how are ya, welcome, how's the weather or even a geeze, you are one ugly motherfucker. Instead I was given the third degree about my finnances as if I was there to mortgage my house or something, had my thumbprint taken and my photograph. After a halfhour or so of this I was cleared to see a nurse. Oh, lucky me, in this land of the * best medical care in the world.* After a bit of humiliation and being treated almost like a criminal I could see a medical person! All hail! the capitalist gods of the free market! All hail! the Rich that allow a a lowly vassal such as myself to survive another year.
