Remember the last time Republicans sent Angry Mobs to Disrupt Something?
Edited on Tue Aug-04-09 08:56 AM by berni_mccoy
I do. And it did so much damage to America that we are still recovering and Obama is left to pick up the pieces. Let's not let them use the same tactics to shut down discussion of Healthcare Reform in town hall meetings across the nation. They are trying to stop that the same way they stopped the recount.

This angry mob, which successfully stopped the recount in Miami-Dade County during the 2000 election standoff, was portrayed by the media as an uprising by Florida voters.

Here are the identities of the protesters:

1. Tom Pyle, policy analyst, office of House Majority Whip Tom DeLay (R-Tex.).
2. Garry Malphrus, majority chief counsel and staff director, House Judiciary subcommittee on criminal justice.
3. Rory Cooper, political division staff member at the National Republican Congressional Committee.
4. Kevin Smith, former House Republican conference analyst and more recently of Voter.com.
5. Steven Brophy, former aide to Sen. Fred D. Thompson (R-Tenn.), now working at the consulting firm KPMG.
6. Matt Schlapp, former chief of staff for Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-Kan.), now on the Bush campaign staff in Austin.
7. Roger Morse, aide to Rep. Van Hilleary (R-Tenn.).
8. Duane Gibson, aide to Chairman Don Young (R-Alaska) of the House Resources Committee.
9. Chuck Royal, legislative assistant to Rep. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.).
10. Layna McConkey, former legislative assistant to former Rep. Jim Ross Lightfoot (R-Iowa) now at Steelman Health Strategies.

This thread raises a REALLY valid point as the 2000 election "protests" are easily the best parallel to what is happening now -- maybe even more so than the Tea Parties -- Sponsored by Fox News.

69. I think if we're gonna have Unrecs (and I'm not convinced of that),
we also should have a separate Unrec count, and maybe a "spread" count that's sorta like a statistical variance and that shows which threads are generating the most heated disagreement.

101. There is way too much handwringing and obsession here about UnRecs,
especially withing the first few minutes of an OP. There are trolls here at DU? So what. This thread currently has over 300 Recs, so why give trolls even more attention by pointing out their UnRecs? Rec the threads you think are deserving and others will do the same and things will take care of themselves. An OP is good on its own merits regardless of how many Recs it gets and each response will raise it in whatever forum it appears. Ultimately deserving threads get their Recs.

34. GREAT IDEA!!!!
Show up at these town hall meetings and start taking photos of every tea bagger you can find. Even better if you show up with several people who are obviously working as a team. Since they are at a public gathering you have the right to photograph them and they have NO expectancy of privacy. It will absolutely FREAK THEM OUT - who cares what happens to the photos.

14. The current crew may be hired help
Edited on Tue Aug-04-09 09:26 AM by jotsy
10 to 12 weeks ago, I was checking out available part time jobs on craigs list when I came across an ad for "conservative actors and actresses". I remember thinking that, curious as I was, I didn't see myself successfully infiltrating their ranks to get an answer as to what they were up to. Now, I feel like I know.

Democrats can't help but look as reactionary as they are reported to be at this point, but since every little bit helps, here are a few things representatives getting heckled might try.

1. Bring a megaphone.

2. Inform the hecklers that it's wonderful they made up their minds and now they should vacate to let others exercise the right to draw their own conclusions.

3. Post pictures of hecklers from prior incidents, it might serve to limit their credibility if they're seen at a number of venues.

4. Have Youtube video playing of these people arriving together so when they act like random and independent protesters, the crowd who came to genuinely learn about the options will realize they are being sold a phony bill of goods.

It might not help, but I don't think calling out posers for what they are can't hurt.

"Tea Baggers FAIL to disrupt Health Care meeting, lessons shared."

by Don Briggs

Share this on Twitter - Tea Baggers FAIL to disrupt Health Care meeting, lessons shared. Mon Aug 03, 2009 at 10:50:13 PM PDT

The Democratic Alliance of Northwest Indiana (DANI ) hosted a meeting with Rep. Pete Visclosky (D, IN-01), on Monday, Aug. 3, 6:30 PM. We invited the public and their written questions. It seems good to share with the Daily Kos readership some lessons we learned.

Bottom line:
• We had an orderly and productive meeting.
• No one stood up, shouted out and sat down.
• At no point was our Congressman or audience rattled.
• DANI accomplished its objective. We provided the public an opportunity to question our Congressman about Health Care and Clean Energy.
• Tea Baggers came out in force, but they failed to disrupt the meeting.
• Local reporters attended.

"Lessons learned follow below the fold."

17. Seems to me
It would be fairly easy to stop this even if it would slow things a little, make the meetings "private" open only to local residents with proof of residency to be admitted... That would end most of it, they could stay outside and make all the fuss they wanted but they would not disrupt the meetings.

29. The point isn't necessarily the bussing...it's that big insurance corporations are funding it
these protesters wouldn't exist if they weren't backed by insurance companies and their lobbyists.

Bush was afraid of real people and filled his town-halls with supporters only.

Democrats are facing fake protesters sponsored by industry. There's a big difference between the two. You can't compare Democrats wanting to shut down these fake protesters with Bush's free-speech zones.

68. Bush limited attendance to "true believers" only
What pissed me off was that he was restricting everyone else from seeing their president, even though as taxpayers they were sharing the cost of his being there.

For a congressman or senator to require that those attending the town hall be from his district seems like a reasonable restriction to me. Or they could give priority admission to residents, and admit others on a space-available basis. Even if they were eventually let in, the disrupters would be identified for what they are -- a bunch of paid goons sent by the GOP solely for the purpose of preventing any meaningful dialog about reforming health insurance.

Having photos of them attending other town halls would be a nice touch. Maybe with the caption, "Performing Tonight, the GOP Goon Squad, presented by the Republican National Committee and the Insurance Industry."

But we're too weak to fight back. We were then, and we are now.

I was a little miffed then regarding that OP, along with--
1) Finding out I lived only a few miles from a crazed, neo-con murderer (Roeder);
2) Hearing that Brownback is eyeing the governor's mansion in Topeka;
3) Learning that Moore may not run for re-election.

Just a little jaded, right now...

Karl Rove came to my University to speak and was basically paid for nothing because people in the crowd kept shouting him down. He just sat up there and smiled and raked in his thousands of dollars for sitting on stage. I would have rather had the douschebag at least have to speak and earn his money, but instead people who wanted to make the front page of the newspaper gave that dick a free lunch.

Swiftboating Al Gore from Argentina, SIDE, Israeli wire transfers, spy files, forgery, Bush & Menem
Sun Jun-10-07 by L. Coyote
There just is no way to make this stuff up!! This is a court pleading. Unbelievable.

First get some spy files from Israel, alter them to look like Argentine spy files, make them implicate Bush and Menem in corruption, blame Gore for the forged documents. Sound familiar. Did I mention blackmailing bribed journalists and, of course, the perennial covert Republican dirty tricksters. This genre of dirty trick came to be known as "swiftboating" when done to Kerry four years later by the same players!!

Olavar (Triumph Communications International Group, Plaintiffs-Appellants, v.
Santibañes, Defendant-Appellee, and Ikon Holdings, Inc., t/a Ikon Public Affairs, Dick Morris, Roger Stone, Eileen McGann, John Does, Defendants.

Appeal from the United States District Court Decided: December 1, 2005

Triumph Communications International Group, Incorporated is a corporation that provides political consulting and public relations services and is owned and operated solely by Mattie Lolavar.

In early 2000, Miss Lolavar began discussions with defendant Dick Morris about the possibility of her working with Craig Snyder and defendant Roger Stone, who are partners in defendant IKON Holdings, Inc., another political consulting firm ... about the possibility of Triumph Communications’ assistance with work that IKON was doing for the government of Argentina.
These discussions lead to two contracts ... and provided that Triumph would act as a public relations consultant to "the Secretary of Intelligence of Argentina" as well as arrange various media events...

Miss Lolavar went to Argentina in August 2000 to assist de Santibañes with preparations for his testimony in Argentine congressional hearings inquiring into allegations that he and the Argentine intelligence agency, known as SIDE, were responsible for bribing various Argentine senators in exchange for political support. Morris and Stone assigned other tasks to Miss Lolavar while she was in Argentina. Among other acts, they instructed her to contact SIDE and obtain a list of journalists who accepted bribes from that organization in order to harm the credibility of those same journalists in reporting on a bribery scandal surrounding de Santibañes and President de la Rua, as well as requiring her to spread false information to the press concerning de la Rua’s political opponent, Dr. Carlos Menem. The charges and counter-charges related here are from the papers in the court file, as are the other facts.

A request that occasioned controversy between Miss Lolavar and the defendants was Morris and Stone’s request that she serve as an intermediary in an anonymous wire transfer of funds to an official in Israel. These funds were to be paid to secure intelligence files from the Israeli government to assist de la Rua’s political domestic disputes with Menem, and to imply a corrupt relationship between Menem and George W. Bush, who was then running against Albert Gore for the United States presidency. These files were to be altered by Miss Lolavar to appear to be SIDE documents.

When the defendants became concerned that this plot would be discovered and traced back to them, they ordered Miss Lolavar to orchestrate a press response to blame Vice President Gore for the dissemination of the documents, since it was known to them that the Gore campaign had been attempting to connect Menem with the Bush campaign.

For those unfamiliar with http://www.thenation.com/doc/20010205/bugliosi">that bit of electoral violence and High Court Treason.

None Dare Call It Treason
By Vincent Bugliosi

This article appeared in the February 5, 2001 edition of The Nation.

In the December 12 ruling by the US Supreme Court handing the election to George Bush, the Court committed the unpardonable sin of being a knowing surrogate for the Republican Party instead of being an impartial arbiter of the law. If you doubt this, try to imagine Al Gore's and George Bush's roles being reversed and ask yourself if you can conceive of Justice Antonin Scalia and his four conservative brethren issuing an emergency order on December 9 stopping the counting of ballots (at a time when Gore's lead had shrunk to 154 votes) on the grounds that if it continued, Gore could suffer "irreparable harm," and then subsequently, on December 12, bequeathing the election to Gore on equal protection grounds. If you can, then I suppose you can also imagine seeing a man jumping away from his own shadow, Frenchmen no longer drinking wine.

I believe President Obama should stand his ground and not let any one of these morons dictate what his agenda should be. The pathetic Republican conservative assholes have been knocked out of the elections, and now are continuing to whine and cry like overgrown gorillas. It is time that they are put in their places. I suggest President Obama go on with all of his agenda, ignore the Republican conservative maggots... I agree with Representative Waxman that they should just have healthcare reform through a committee... I also believe that electoral reforms must be executed so that not one Republican conservative maggot ever influences the country for generations to come. I believe President Obama is doing a great job.

This will probably land both of you in jail. And this is where another person must come into play. Watch to see WHO BAILS OUT the Republican guy. Get the name of the person or organization who posts bail. Get the details. Post them. Send them to responsible media.

This is the only way to prove that these guys are paid for by Republicans, Big Pharma and Big Insurance.

Instead we have scumbags like Max Baucus saying we can't do anything without these bastards.
The reason Democrats are perceived as weak is because even with large majorities our leaders cower in the corner in fear of what the bad ass Republicans might say about them.
The Democratic leadership should be locked in a room and forced to listen to Franklin Roosevelt say "We have nothing to fear but fear itself." until the message sinks in or we get new leaders.

stupidly gullible. But, some of them are not.

They don't respect the citizens of this country. They will keep doing this - they have no shame and they believe in Atwater, Rove, and flipped, bumbled, destruve reality shifts.

It is essential to make a list of what they are for and against -

Corporate media never stood up to Republicans about the stealth of the door pounding event.
Corporate media has never stood up to Republicans about voting machines.
Corporate media has never stood up to Republicans about missing money from DOD HUD

There are thousands of crimes that they have aided and abetted. The media was on the same side as the people in the photo above.

As bizarre, self-blinded, transparent, obnoxious, stubborn as this woman is about her and her followers concoction - I ask you to notice something -

Every time corporate media goes after some issue with this volume of negation and put down
there is a single woman involved who gets sacrificed.

Chandra Levy Monica Lewinsky Anna Nicole Smith.

Purposely move your focus from this woman and concentrate on GEnbc while you watch them.

I propose this - someone in the Repub planning committee wants to win both ways - they want their followers who have a clearer head to know that they don't believe this and they want their followers who believe every bigoted, non-white hate based angle to never forget this issue. This women with her backers stepped into the middle and went to the top with her stealth. They had a choice of decorum in the way it was handled. She (OT) has been sacrificed perfectly for this purpose, strategy, and tactic by their stealth which is Republican. It's all Republican. Strategy delivered (with revenue to be made by extended coverage).
