Pa. health club shooting gunman identified, hated women and was a racist

A gunman who fired dozens of shots into a fitness center exercise class was a 48-year-old man from suburban Pittsburgh.

A person close to the Allegheny County coroner's office says the gunman was George Sodini who lived in Carnegie, just a few miles from the health club. The person wasn't authorized to comment on the gunman's identity and spoke on condition of anonymity.

In a Web site posted under his name, Sodini wrote rambling messages about his hatred of women and how he was tired of being rejected by them. He ended by writing, "Death Lives!"

Three women were killed and nine injured Tuesday night before the gunman shot himself to death.

I get the impression that he was just too much of an asshole for anyone to bother with taking on the project of "saving" him. His family life sucked for sure, but plenty of people survive everything he wrote about and don't go slaughter a bunch of innocent people.

of an asshole he was from the blog--clearly a badly disordered mind, but he seems to have had at least a few positive interactions with people. He was good enough at his job to rise to a fairly high position and avoid several rounds of layoffs, and full out nutjobs usually aren't capable of that level of competence.

If I had to guess, and only a guess, most of the people he came in contact with liked him okay, but his psychosis wouldn't let him see his personal relationships as anything but negative. Woman makes eye contact, shows interest, he tells himself she CAN'T mean me. You see a little of that in the blog. Or he goes on a date. Sees it as a bad experience. Maybe it WAS a bad date, but maybe it's all in his head, and she wonders why he never called her back. It's just hard to tell without hearing from the people around him. Again, my guess is the guy hid his problems well, otherwise he would have run afoul of the law or the mental health system before now. JMHO.

I decided on the latter - accepting that I am undesirable.

But I still think it is partly a class thing. I do not have a high-status, good-paying job that college-educated women are seeking and I am not a beer-drinking, smoking, tatooed type who would fit better with working class women.

The other thing seems to be timing. If you meet a desirable woman, chances are she is already taken.

It's hard for me to believe that there is something wrong with me when I see plenty of dorky-looking a$$holes who have somebody.

same age, almost the same vitals. I had decided I was going to be single the rest of my life, and was okay with it. Then, out of the blue, a fantastic woman came into my life. Someone who has everything I was looking for, and more. And for no reason that I can discern-she just showed up. I had a friend who was bi-polar (my guess because of horrible mood swings and other behaviors), it was breaking her family apart. In fact I had less and less to do with her because of her behavior.

Her husband begged me to intervene because I had known her longer than he had.

I truly wanted to help her, sat her down and told her as gently as I could but firmly. "you need help, we all love you, but you are driving everyone away from you. please get help"

She cut me out of her life and managed to completely mess up her family (divorce and loss of custody) and still blames it on everyone but herself.

If she hadn't cut me out, her lack of dealing with the issue would have made me cut her off completely.

While driving I radio surfed to a talk show. The caller was a 30ish black man who was describing the despair in certain black communities. According to him, life is cheap there because you are going to die anyway when you get old. It is the quality of life that is important, he said.
