There's another great benefit for this "Cash for Clunker" program - Sales tax for the States |
|
I live in Delaware so we are pretty much sales tax free except a few items - like cars. So every car sold under this program, 2.5% is paid to the state in sales tax.
So if the final price of the car is $10,000, that would be $250 going to the state of Delaware.
If 100 cars were sold, that's $25,000 going to the state.
Now I live in a small state, imagine what's happening in California where their sales tax is around 8%.
That means they get $800 per car and I'm sure they may have easily sold 10,000 cars during this program or $8,000,000 dollars coming into the state. Sure, with a budget like California that may not seem like much but every penny counts.
