Tantalizing, huh? Well, in addition to the subpoena, Conyers has made available all of the previous correspondence with DOJ, including the most recent letter to Richard Hertling. And that letter includes a more thorough description of what Conyers is after.

I need to see exactly when the lists for termination were developed and modified, who had input into those determinations and the reasons they ascribed to their recommendations, and when and who suggested the changing explanations for these decisions to the public and to our Committee.

Shorter John Conyers: we've just demonstrated that you keep changing your story. And we would like to know who was in charge of that changing story. He goes on:

- snip -

Then there's the suggestion that they've been vacuuming up the hard drives of those who have left:

All of these required data should include the computers and other records of the individuals who worked on this matter but have since left the Department or are on administrative leave, including but not limited to Mr. Sampson, Mr. Battle and Ms. Goodling.

This is actually one I think I can help with. Even in my review, I've seen evidence that Moschella turned over documents that included cc's to Elston, but which didn't show up in Elston's document dump. In other words, Elston didn't turn over as much as Moschella. And Goodling turned over still less. So I'm guessing, that there's a whole bunch of materials they tried to destroy as soon as Goodling took her pre-resignation leave of absence.

- snip -

Now that would be a leak I'd like to see--the results of forensic imaging of Turdblossom's White House computer. It would make Nixon's tapes look like child's play.

2. Sometimes, it's not the crime that sends them to jail
it's the cover-up. Obstruction of Justice can be lot easier to prove. Then, you can add on conspiracy.

13. Just like when a group of us
Edited on Wed Apr-11-07 01:37 PM by Gman
on the day Iran-Contra broke sat behind the local ice house drinking beer after softball practice. we were saying on that evening that they were hitting the shredders as we were speaking and talking about it. Turns out we were completely correct as I'm sure I am now. These are the same people now, as then that are calling the shots. They don't give a fat rat's butt about obstruction of justice. If they don't get caught, it never happened. And if they do get caught, they'll claim they did nothing wrong and they are victims of a political witch hunt and why do we love terrorists so much and hate America

was a move to secure the evidence.

18. And bush will pardon all of them, if congress doesn't pass a law
to make pardons void for investigations/crimes within the highest levels of government.

This just means any old crook can take control of the oval office, set their crime syndicate up in business, commit every crime in the book, and then turn around and PARDON the same crooks he hired.

The pardon gives too much leeway to crimes committed in the oval office.

4. No way are they gonna comply with the subpoena
As one of Marcy's commenters said, they can't, from their POV. Conyers is onto something, and they can't let him have the evidence.

This is going to be a Constitutional fight to the death.

BTW, I love John Conyers! Smart, asking for bcc records and metadata.

10. Yes, that is a very good point!
And I'll bet that some of those NSA staff are very unhappy with the illegal behavior of the chimp administration.

14. They might have just enough "copies" of e-mails turned over by those more afraid
and less sure of themselves than Monica Goodling (who has been protected and pushed forward since her '99 graduation from Regent Law School.

It's possible they have e-mails that they know are copies that were sent...and are asking for the originals that probably were deleted. Still...they might have a sketchy trail of documents but enough that Conyers team could piece together what is missing.

Obstruction of Justice and Tampering with evidence.....They probably have that nailed by now even without all the missing stuff. The deleted hard drives or missing laptops (deep sixed or run over by a Mack truck) are the icing on their case. A little bit of testimony from some frightened DOJ staffers about what they saw or heard would also cinch it.

That's my hope, anyway.

There were a lot of witnesses that saw it...the republicans were doing it in plain sight.
