I attended my Republican Congressman's townhall tonight. |

My Representative - Marsha Blackburn had a heath care town hall in Memphis tonight. I waited and tried to ask a question but she ended before I could. Some observations:
This was an announced "Facebook" town hall. There were about 100-120 people attending, many more that she was expecting.
95% were anti-"Obamacare" as their signs and literature described it.
One third of the crowd had teabag hats, shirts, or leftover signs. About a forth of the crowd were doctors and nurses wearing scrubs.
They were more organized than I expected.
A couple of guys were talking about how the liberals were supposed to show up in force but there was no one there. They want "their" country back.
" I thought we were a nation of laws, what has happened to our country since this administration came on"
Marsha actually agreed that some insurance industry regulation was necessary(insurance companies should not be able to drop people or not pay for procedures of those those people that they do cover) but also said "what is the rush"
When a Union Steelworker asked a question about losing his coverage, she acted sympathetic but went right back to saying "what is the big rush?" with the crowd cheering.
When an African-American nurse asked her where was her concern about people losing their coverage in the past eight years she sidestepped the question and talked about lowering government spending.
Lots of video cameras and phone videos were taken by the adoring crown.
One of the biggest concerns from the crowd was where is the republican leadership? Many felt that they could not stop this and wanted to know what they could do. Marsha tiptoed around this and told them to keep the pressure on their Congressional reps and Senators.
The crowd also talked about the upcoming town hall for the democratic rep Steve Cohen that is scheduled for Saturday morning in Memphis. Many said they would be attending that town hall.
I don't think anybody was a paid to be there with the possible exception of a couple of people that claimed to work directly for insurance companies and hospitals. They were mainly true believers.

|
no violence? so when Democratic reps and Senators have their town halls it turns into a shouting match? sounds like a set up to me, to intimidate the Dems.

7. Yes it was a republican reps town hall. |
|
The subject was health care and there was no violence or shouting because they were all in agreement with the rep.

You and other 5 percent would spread out, and intermittently scream, "Healthcare Now!" then sit down. And then rather than wait to be called on, you would scream a question, then when she ignores it, your fellow conspirator would jump up and yell, "Answer the Question!" then sit down. Then, when she opens her mouth to say something, you would yell, "Lies! Tell the truth."
Finally, if you did get kicked out, then you would find a TV camera, and show them a copy of the Constitution you keep in your back pocket, and accuse everyone of being a Nazi.

11. I recognized at least one of the doctors |

The only two African-Americans there were nurses and were in favor of health care reform. They were part of the 5 percent.

12. We had a lot of insurance execs there. This meeting was not about |
|
healthcare, it was about building Organizing for America. That was ignored by the disrupters. When I stood up, I guess some figured I was a disrupter, and didn't interrupt until they figured me out.

Really, why can't all townhalls be civilized discussions? Never mind, I know they have little ability to think for themselves and are like sheep.
