Palin: "My baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s death panel"
Sarah Palin might not be the governor of Alaska anymore, but she's still weighing in on politics. Friday afternoon, she took to her Facebook page to warn of the dangers of Democratic healthcare plans.

"The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care," Palin wrote.

This is, of course, just one more in a long list of myths that are floating around among reform opponents. Here's Palin's full post:

As more Americans delve into the disturbing details of the nationalized health care plan that the current administration is rushing through Congress, our collective jaw is dropping, and we’re saying not just no, but hell no!

The Democrats promise that a government health care system will reduce the cost of health care, but as the economist Thomas Sowell has pointed out, government health care will not reduce the cost; it will simply refuse to pay the cost. And who will suffer the most when they ration care? The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course. The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s “death panel” so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their “level of productivity in society,” whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.

Health care by definition involves life and death decisions. Human rights and human dignity must be at the center of any health care discussion.

Rep. Michele Bachmann highlighted the Orwellian thinking of the president’s health care advisor, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the brother of the White House chief of staff, in a floor speech to the House of Representatives. I commend her for being a voice for the most precious members of our society, our children and our seniors.

We must step up and engage in this most crucial debate. Nationalizing our health care system is a point of no return for government interference in the lives of its citizens. If we go down this path, there will be no turning back. Ronald Reagan once wrote, “Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this earth.” Let’s stop and think and make our voices heard before it’s too late.

1. Once again she throws her child into the fire
and uses the poor thing to tell lies. Hey John - you really wanted her a heart beat away?

2. But it wouldn't be Trig's FIRST death panel, would it, Sarah?
Edited on Fri Aug-07-09 11:03 PM by rocktivity
She went into labor with Trig the night she was due to give a speech in Texas. Seeing as she knew Trig had Down's syndrome and wasn't expecting him for another month, you'd think she would cancel her plans and find a doctor. But she not only gave her speech, she took a twelve-hour flight to Alaska afterwards!

4. And a 45-minute ride to a small town hospital, unequipped to deliver or care for high risk newborns.

5. She was just sort of hoping that a little "incident" woul happen
and she'd get to play the bereaved mother, while avoiding getting stuck with a Down Syndrome child. Don't forget that he was also a month premature. Just sort of hoping he'd come along during that flight, develop breathing problems, and, well, you know the rest...

8. And even if true . . .
I believe that this is a decision and choice that was Sarah's to make.

Just because she may be a hypocrite, doesn't excuse me being one.

10. She has the legal right to make such a decision.
That doesn't stop it from being a despicable, horrible decision. If you don't want a Down Syndrome kid, then have a timely abortion after you find out about it. Don't try to "accidently" have it die of birth complications while pretending that you actually wanted it.

I wouldn't legally prohibit her from such behavior, but I sure as hell have the right to judge her for it.

11. Well judge away.
I am just a person who had a mother in the same situation as Sarah, and she made a different choice (one which I support, and in some ways thank her for).

So, to quote Obama, "I'm biased."

20. She made a choice to risk having a compromised baby on a long flight?
Well, it was certainly her right, (if the airline would accept her), but it's still not a choice I can respect.

18. When I first read about her trip back to Alaska
after finding out she was in labor, as a former NICU nurse for 16 years, I knew exactly what she was hoping would happen. A compromised baby born on a five hour flight would have a very low probability of survival. Bingo, Sarah, all your "little" problems would be solved. This narcissistic sociopath would do anything to further her own agenda and that includes putting her unborn Down's Syndrome baby at risk of dying on a plane. She was a high risk pregnancy to begin with because of her age and because of the child she was carrying, she knew the risks and she knew the odds. Her OBGYN would have been medically negligent by not informing her.

Edited on Sat Aug-08-09 01:03 AM by no_hypocrisy
It's far too articulate. I remain with my premise that she's another client of Karl Rove. This is too advanced for her to create independently.

25. If Palin is so worried about Trig, she should check her for-profit insurance policy.
I'll bet that there is an exclusion clause in there for most expenses related to the treatment of a "developmental disability".
