1. Not just no, but hell no! |
|
It will not get significantly better unless the REAL unemployment rate drops below 5%.

3. The question was, 'is it STARTING to RECOVER?'; not is it significantly better. |

13. Doesn't matter. As long as there's still anything wrong, DUers will bitch about it.... |
|
This kind of poll will never work on DU.

2. Regarding the unemployment figures |
|
The number dropped from 9.5% to 9.4% this week. I only heard one newscast which acknowledged that people who no longer receive unemployment compensation because their benefit is exhausted are not counted. That's got to be a whole lot of people.

4. It depends on where you live |
|
It's slowed down drastically here where I live, but isn't nearly as bad as in other places.

5. It's showing signs of recovery. |

I think there's a very real distinction there. I'm not prepared to say the economy is starting to recover until it starts adding jobs.
Edit: I voted "too soon to tell."

6. At least $30,000 per person disappeared. |
|
That's $30,000 each for every man, woman and child in the United States. Some might say that wasn't "real" money, but it was real to someone. And it's gone.
I'm approaching 60 years of age and I don't expect this to be totally over in my lifetime.

The banksters economy, the one they distract everyone with, or the real economy that most of us live in?

9. Depends on which area of the economy is... |
|
Actually, given fewer job cuts, I do think the economy IS turning the corner -- and even the President has admitted it won't be fully over until new, middle class jobs are created.

10. I voted "other" because I think the overleveraged economy we have |
|
now is over for good. Something else will replace it, but no one knows the timeline. Who knows, the PTB could resuscitate the old economy so it would stumble along for another 10 years. All I know is that I saw the beginning of the end when Reagan got elected, and frankly, I never expected this fakey phoney-baloney debt-run economy to last even as long as it has. Like I said, no one knows the timeline.

14. Yes but we'll never get back to 5% unemployment |
|
We may get back to 6 or 7% but many industrial jobs are gone, unfortunately.
