Dear lurking freepers. We democrats are not against dissent. |
|
On the contrary. We love dissent. We thrive on dissent. We argue all day long when our party is out of power, and when our party is in party we argue even more. We argue so much amongst ourselves, we sometimes even forget that we like to argue against Republicans. And when there is nothing real to argue about, we will argue about Sarah Palin's daughter or which minority suffered the most, or about broken broccoli or which pot gets you the highest.
However, what you are doing is not dissent. In order to practice dissent, first you have to actually understand the issue. Most of you are already struggling with this step. THEN you have to articulate which part of it you disagree with and why, and on a good day make a suggestion for improvement.
Bringing a gun to a presidential event and holding a poster with a quote from a famous terrorist is not dissent. If for no other reason then simply for the reason that no one understands what the hell your problem is. And furthermore, it simply scares people, and people who are afraid tend to react very defensively.
To be a dissenter, it also helps if your position is at least mildly fact-based. Creationism is not dissent, it is bullshit. Obamas birth certificate is not dissent either, for the same reason as creationism. People running around claiming that they are Napoleon are not dissenters.
Now if one of you could actually come forward and explain what your problem is, most of us would probably be willing to at least listen to it. If is really because Obama is black, and it is looking more and more like that is actually the problem, then please please please just come out and say so. At least that would be honest.
In short: If you want to ever be taken serious as a dissenter you are going to have to do much better than "Obama wants to euthanize my grandma"
Thank you for your attention.

1. Honestly, who cares what they think? |
|
Let them think what they want, nothing they come up with is rooted in reality.

Who would really like to roll up our sleeves and get to work without having to suffer the constant distractions of the noise machines.

9. No, it was Howard Zinn, in the interview linked below, misattributed to Thomas Jefferson ever since. |

when I used to go into the schools on Law Day and talk to the 5th graders, I would tell them that the reason the Constitution had so many protections for criminals is because the people who wrote it WERE the criminals in their day.
Making many a teacher very nervous.

The quote itself is not from a terrorist. It was on the shirt the terrorist wore.

4. You're calling Thomas Jefferson a "famous terrorist"? |
|
Well, I guess King George probably thought so.

10. Neither McVay or Jefferson. It's a Howard Zinn quote, see link below. |
