Question begging to be asked of O'Reilly, Beck, and their ilk....
When have you gone too far? When is it enough?

And it should be tied to the reality show guy in I forgot which country that was in the news story yesterday about arranging for murders for ratings.

Draw the line...connect the dots between hate speech and action. Between calling for violence, actions, and ratings. Call their sponsors out for giving money to support such violence and hatred.

We need to go there because there is a point at which speech becomes criminal and the people who engage in this sort of fomenting break the law. We need to go there and we need demand our spokespeople and elected officials to call them out on it before we have more crimes committed by those who listen to these provocateurs. In our own lives, we need to help diffuse this with family and friends too.

1. i have said this before
i will say it again (and people will accuse me of "defending oreilly") i have yet to see oreilly call for violence of any sort. and no, referring to tiller as "tiller the baby killer' is NOT a call to violence.

i also have yet to see any quote attributed to oreilly or beck that would remotely be considered as criminal.

nor for that matter, mike malloy, who is also quite hateful, albeit from a different perspective.

2. That's psycho talk. It's not a call to violence to YOU.
Because you're not crazy. At least I assume you're not. Unhinged, angry wingnuts take words like those you quote as justification for murder.

You've already seen it happen, yet you deny it.

3. to whom are you referring to?
if you are talking about roeder, yes he killed dr. tiller. blaming OREILLY for that is ridiculous.

i completely dismiss the idea that people (oreilly, malloy or anybody else) should fear discussing topics because some nutcase might do something

this is right along the lines of people blaming marilyn manson for columbine, ozzy osbourne for some idiot's suicide, etc.

crazy people (and roeder apparently had mental health issues) are gonna do crazy shit.

i once arrested a schizophrenic arsonist who had been driven to burn down somebody's house because they subscribed to pornographic magazines.

yes, i do deny that oreilly has ANY culpability in tiller's death.

i do appreciate your assuming i am not crazy. fwiw, i have had to take numerous psychological assessments (for federal security clearance and for law enforcement)

on one assessment i was told "you are so normal, it's kind of abnormal". lol

5. What would you do if someone were a baby killer?
Most folks take the red meat and start attacking. They don't practice your retraint.

7. utter rubbish
most folks DON'T

there are literally MILLIONS of people who believe that some of the practices that dr tiller engaged in are "baby killing" or at least an awful crime against "babies".

i don't see millions of people killing dr's, so spare me the rhetoric.,

the issue is this. free speech matters. people are responsbile for THEIR actions. if i opine that rove is a murderous piece of shit, and somebody kills rove, that is NOT my fucking fault.

the reality is the VAST majority of antichoice folks are against violence.

i don't care what the politics are. i don't blame ale gore for ELF either.

6. So it falls short of being criminal
Point taken.
And they have a right to spout whatever nonsense they choose.

But advertisers needn't fund it, and people also have a right to criticize them for "going too far," even if it is not criminal.

Shouting "fire" in a crowded theater may be (I'm not sure) legal, but it is antisocial, perhaps sociopathic, behavior and should be condemned.

8. those are different issues
i have no problem with people condemning oreilly.

i have a problem with them blaming him, or even calling for his prosecution.

also note that the actual quote is "FALSELY shouting fire".

the case was schenck

the phrase "falsely shouting fire in a crowded theatre" was used in this SCOTUS case to justify the prosecution of a WAR PROTESTOR.

should code pink be arrested and prosecuted for war protest?

fwiw, schenck is NOT the law of the land. it was superseded by brandenburg, so not only is your quote inaccurate but it's no longer the law of the land. i also find that 99.9% of the people who reference this meme don't realize that it was use to justify the prosecution of somebody for protesting the war.

i respect 100% the right of abortion opponents and./or late term abortion opponents to condemn tiller and fight to change the law. that's their right.

i 100% respect the right of people to express their opinion.

fwiw, i USED to be anti-choice. i changed my mind due to both careful reflection and listening to the arguments on BOTH sides.

i find the pro-choice argument more compelling, so i am pro-choice.

i want DEBATE. i want people to express their opinion. i am certainly not going to condemn oreilly for doing so.
