Despite the Violence and the Death Threats, We Must Not Give Up
Edited on Thu Aug-13-09 11:00 AM by berni_mccoy
Our cause to bring Healthcare to all Americans regardless of wealth or privilege is right and just. We should be prepared for resistance, even violent resistance. The wealthy and powerful Health Insurance industry are using fear, bigotry and racism to incite an extreme group who would be willing to use violence and even commit murder on their behalf. This is nothing new in the violent history of America.

How many death threats do you suppose this man received:

He died for what he believed in.

How many death threats do you suppose this woman received:

I would suppose many.

These men too died for something we now accept as reality:

How many death threats did JFK receive when he ordered a force to make Gov. Wallace step aside and allow the enrollment of two African American students at the University of Alabama? How many did he receive after he signed the Civil Rights bill the following week?

Much blood was shed to bring equal rights to all people. Can you imagine if these, and many others, backed down because of the violence and the death threats? Where would we be today if they had given up?

We must not let the Health Insurance companies use ignorant and violent people they have misled intimidate a cause that is just and right. We must continue to push forward, despite their resistance. More than 18 thousand Americans are dying each year because they cannot afford healthcare. The poor and the sick are depending on us, our Congressional representatives and the President to succeed in our movement to bring Healthcare to all.

We must not give up.
