Edited on Thu Aug-13-09 11:40 AM by Winterblues
are solidly against Government single payer Health Care for other Americans? There was a Democratic Amendment attached to another bill a short while ago that asked Medicare be dismantled and every Republican voted against that amendment..And even more to the point is why are no Democrats bringing this up? Why are there no Ads mentioning this very important Fact?

2. That's exactly why Republicans oppose health care reform. |
|
They know that, if this reform is enacted, it will attain the same status as Social Security, Medicare, and the VA.
For all the conservative griping about those programs, the American people largely support them. No politician in his right mind is going to seriously oppose those programs because it would be political suicide. Even Bush, in his abortive attempt to privatize Social Security, tried to choose his words carefully to avoid alienating voters. What happened? He alienated them anyway.
The GOP knows that, if this program passes, it will become untouchable.

3. Probably for the same reason the amendment vote never made it off the internet into the MSM. |

I don't recall any unanimous Republican vote for Medicare.

Republicans Reveal Their Hypocrisy On Health Care, Refuse To Support Bill To Kill Government-Run Medicare For months, Republicans have been trying to scare Americans away from supporting a public option in health care reform, claiming that “government-run” medicine is akin to socialism and would be disastrous. But the government already runs several successful, well-loved health care programs — most notably, Medicare.
Yesterday, Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) decided that it was “put-up or shut-up time for the phonies who deride the so-called ‘public option.’” He offered an amendment that would eliminate government-run Medicare:
Not a single member of Congress voted for the amendment, and Republicans were blasting it as a “political farce.” Last night, Weiner went on MSNBC and explained the GOP’s hypocrisy:

6. Old people cut into insurance company profits. |
|
It's that simple. The insurance companies do everything they can, legal and sometimes not, to throw unprofitable customers off their boat.
Without Medicare the number of dead bodies floating in the water might clog the propellers and alarm the customers strolling on the sunny upper decks.
