Frame it as something we are giving them and use it as a negotiation point.

1. It's hardly an essential part of the bill, anyway.
Not that having Medicare pay for advance care planning is a bad idea, but I'd rather keep the bill as simple as possible. Amendments like this are the reason it's over 1,000 pages long.

5. If you get a terminal illness
sitting down and talking about whether you want a DNR, lots of morphine, heavy duty meds to prolong your life a few more weeks or months, and so forth.

6. If you do not have a living will
I BEG you to write one. They are very simple and the choices are dictated by the state you live in. Right now my father is dying from prostate cancer. He may not live out the week. His living will is a tremendous comfort to our family as we know exactly how he wants to be treated now that he is unable to communicate. This is no shit - no joke - and one of the most important things you can do for the ones you love. A living will and a medical durable power of attorney take very little time to complete and are more important than you can imagine.

Now, if these dumbshits don't want some help paying for a doctors consultation before creating a living will - that's fine with me.

7. Uh, here's a hint. No matter what you call this, the right will beat you over the head with it. Drop
it, now.

8. No shit huh?
It's a nice addition, but really, I'm not going to sacrifice the health of 50 million due to some living will counseling.
